Apple iPad 9

The cheapest iPad in Apple’s lineup is the entry-level 9th-gen iPad, which received a significant upgrade last year. The device rocks specs that are equivalent to the 2019 iPhone 11. The handset is still available in Apple’s lineup, and it’s a great bargain for anyone looking for an affordable, brand-new iPhone with a large screen. But Apple plans to upgrade the entry-level iPad this year, with the new model expected to receive a big specs bump.

That’s according to a new report that teases a potential redesign for the 10th-gen iPad, which includes the upgrade from Lightning to USB-C connectivity.

The entry-level iPad starts at just $329 for the 64GB version, a price that buys a tablet experience unavailable from any entry-level Android tablet. But considering Apple’s various moves with the rest of the iPad family, the entry-level iPad is currently an exception from Apple’s new iPad standards.

The entry-level iPad is the only one to feature a traditional design, with a home button still present on the front. The iPad Pro, iPad Air, and iPad mini have all ditched the home button and have the same overall design. We’re looking at large displays and uniform bezels.

Similarly, the entry-level iPad is the only iPad in Apple’s lineup not to have switched from Lightning to USB-C. All other models have the same standard charging port found on most Android handsets and tablets.

Finally, the entry-level iPad is the only model not to support 5G connectivity.

New entry-level iPad specs

As you might have guessed, a brand new leak indicates that Apple will want to correct all those issues with the 10th-gen iPad. 9to5Mac reports that its sources have revealed various specs details about the entry-level iPad.

The new tablets should feature the A14 Bionic chip that powers the iPhone 12 series, 5G connectivity, and USB-C support. The move to A14 Bionic makes sense for the cheapest iPad, and so does 5G connectivity. But if the leak is accurate, those hoping Apple would choose a different 2022 System-on-Chip (SoC) for the new entry-level iPad might be disappointed.

As a reminder, Apple released the A14 Bionic and the M1 in the second half of 2020. A few weeks ago, Apple unveiled new multitasking features in iPadOS 16 that require an M1 chip and fast storage. Apple will surely upgrade all its iPads to M-series SoCs in the future, but it’s not starting this year. After all, the iPad mini 6 rocks the A15 Bionic rather than the M1.

As for the move to USB-C, that’s hardly a surprise considering Apple’s iPad lineup. But also, the European Union decided to impose USB-C as the standard charging port for all electronic gadgets, tablets included.

The most exciting detail about the new-entry level iPad might concern the display. The 10th-gen tablet will feature a Retina display of the same resolution as the iPad Air. That implies the new iPad will get either a 10.5-inch or 10.9-inch screen. Currently, the iPad has a 10.2-inch display with 2160 x 1620 resolution. The iPad Air 5 features a 10.9-inch screen with 2360 x 1640 resolution.

Why a design change makes sense

The report also notes that more modern display specs will remain exclusive to more expensive iPads. The new entry-level iPad will not support wide color gamut with DCI-P3 or higher brightness.

While 9to5Mac can’t say whether the new iPad will get a new design, all these details indicate that Apple will go for a redesign. The entry-level iPad could look just like the iPad Air 5. It could lose the home button in favor of a larger display. The fingerprint sensor would simply migrate to the power button.

That way, Apple could offer a uniform iPad design language and experience across the board. But that’s just speculation at this point.

That said, 9to5Mac’s sources accurately leaked the iPad Air 5 specs last year (M1 support and 5G connectivity). They might be right about the new entry-level iPad’s specs, even if there’s no big redesign to go along with them.

With the arrival of the WWDC 2022 kickoff on Monday — the highlight of which is always a keynote address jam-packed with software updates for all of Apple’s hardware product lines, including the just-announced iPadOS 16 — the week-long developers conference finds one of Apple’s signature annual events almost back to normal.

Apple moments ago unveiled a new iteration of the OS that powers its iPad line of tablets. The iPad is, of course, a premium piece of hardware that, for all of its strongest qualities, has nevertheless felt a little bit hampered for a while now. Why? Well, mostly for one reason: The software that can make it difficult to perform certain complex tasks. The kinds of tasks that users take for granted on a desktop.

Does iPadOS 16 finally close that gap, or at least start to? I think so. But keep refreshing this page as we unpack and work through the details that Apple is sharing right now.

iPadOS 16 = making Apple’s tablet more like a MacBook Air

“Today,” Apple CEO Tim Cook said in the opening moments of the event, “we’re going to push our platforms further than ever.” Heading into WWDC, iPad loyalists were optimistic that this year is the year. That the time is now for Apple’s gorgeous line of tablets to finally make the leap from being basically giant iPhones, in terms of the software experience, to something more closely resembling a computer.

Ahead of the iPadOS 16 announcement, word began to circulate that a revamped multitasking interface was, thankfully, on the horizon. According to Bloomberg, the revamped design should “make it easier to see what apps are open” and to switch between active applications.

“This year, we have a big release,” Apple senior vice president of software engineering Craig Federighi said during the iPadOS portion of Monday’s event. A release, he continued, that will take the iPad even further. iPadOS 16 promises new ways to collaborate and to get work done. Plus new features for Pro users that take advantage of the power of the tablet’s desktop-class chip under the hood.

Bestowing the iPad with more desktop-like functionality, including the ability to resize windows, will certainly inspire me to pick up and use my tablet even more than I already do. To the point that, increasingly, the line between macOS and iPadOS might legitimately start to feel a little blurry.

For iPadOS16, Federighi continued, Apple scoured its entire app ecosystem to add new features that users enjoy on the Mac. And the company is now bringing many of them over to the iPad. Some of the flurry of new iPad features include

  • The ability to find and merge cards and to create lists in Contacts
  • A refresh to Files, including the ability to change file extensions
  • Apple has also added a redesigned “find and replace” experience that works in-line
  • And, among many other new features, for the first time ever? Customizable toolbars in iPadOS

New iPad features

For a deeper dive into the panoply of newly announced features, let’s start with Messages.

From Apple’s announcement:

“New features in Messages make it easy to start collaborating and manage shared content across Files, Keynote, Numbers, Pages, Notes, Reminders, and Safari, as well as third-party apps. When users send an invitation to collaborate via Messages, everyone on the thread is automatically added to the document, spreadsheet, or project.”

Furthermore, when someone makes a change to a shared file? Everyone can see updates at the top of the Messages thread. And when a user is working on a collaborative project, they can easily jump into the associated Messages conversation. Or, they can just tap to start a FaceTime call with their collaborators.

Another big new update? Stage Manager. Again, from Apple:

“Stage Manager is an entirely new multitasking experience that automatically organizes apps and windows, making it quick and easy to switch between tasks. For the first time on iPad, users can create overlapping windows of different sizes in a single view, drag and drop windows from the side, or open apps from the Dock to create groups of apps for faster, more flexible multitasking.”

The window of the app users are working on is displayed prominently in the center of the screen. Other open apps and windows, meanwhile, are arranged on the left-hand side in order of recency.

WWDC 2022 highlights

Speaking of the WWDC 2022 presentation today, and to our note above about the event being “almost back to normal” —

We haven’t put the Covid pandemic behind us just yet, of course. Because of that, rather than the 6,000-attendee WWDC events of old? This year’s version was something of a hybrid. That means a smattering of journalists, bloggers, and developers on hand to watch Day 1 of the conference today. Which, by the way, comes almost 15 years after Apple introduced the first iPhone, back in June of 2007.

Tim Cook at Apple's March event.

The generally software-focused WWDC conference, among other things, serves to reinforce how important software is to the company that was once known primarily for selling expensive and highly coveted gadgets that also double, among some fans and loyalists, as status symbols. But with consumers keeping, for example, iPhones longer than ever these days? Device owners increasingly look to feature-laden software updates to make their devices more useful over a longer time horizon.

The $20 billion or so that Apple generates each year from software sales via the company’s App Store further underscores that reality.

WWDC 2022 opens on Monday with Apple’s main keynote, where we’ll discover all the new software features that Apple is willing to disclose. The next version of iOS is usually the most exciting thing coming out of WWDC. Millions of iPhone users can’t wait to get their hands on the new beta. But things might be different this year, considering a wave of recent leaks. Several sources claim that iPadOS 16 will bring laptop-style multitasking to the iPad.

Apple made numerous improvements to the iPad operating system over the year, transforming iOS to take advantage of the larger screen real estate. The iPad hasn’t been a glorified large iPhone for years, as Apple is miles ahead of Google when it comes to the tablet experience.

The iPad already supports multitasking, letting users run up to three app windows side by side. But the pre-iPadOS 16 experience is hardly in line with the multitasking features we’re used to taking advantage of on traditional computers. And Apple sells the iPad as a laptop alternative without making the most of it.

The best example is the massive power available to the iPad right now. The iPad Air 5 and the new iPad Pro models feature the same M1 System-on-Chip (SoC) that powers MacBooks. Yet the software doesn’t take advantage of all that extra power, multitasking included.

iPadOS 16 might change all that when it launches next week.

How multitasking might work in iPadOS 16

iPadOS 16 might be the highlight of WWDC 2022, thanks to the new multitasking feature. In a recent report, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman said that the redesigned interface will make it easier to see what apps are open and switch between tasks.

Moreover, users will be able to resize app windows. And iPadOS 16 will let them handle multiple apps at once.

The insider also teased the multitasking changes in his Power On newsletter a few days ago. He said he expected “major changes to windowing and multitasking, particularly on the iPad.”

Furthermore, Gurman cited the findings of well-known developer Steve Troughton-Smith. He discovered a few days ago clues in WebKit code that indicate that “freely-resizable windows” are coming to iPadOS.

Finally, LeaksApplePro also said earlier this week that iPadOS 16 will bring a “massive improvement” to multitasking. The OS “will allow users to open multiple apps in the form of windows that can be resized, just like on a computer,” he said.

However, actual images or animations that would support these claims have not leaked. We’ll also add these are just rumors, no matter how credible the sources. Thankfully, WWDC 2022 is just around the corner. We’ll soon see Apple’s new iPadOS 16 multitasking features in action.

iPadOS 16 may bring a huge update for iPad owners to take advantage of. New reports suggest that Apple could reveal an iPad multitasking mode at WWDC 2022. Of course, these reports could turn out to be nothing but speculation. But, if they do prove true, iPadOS 16 could allow users to resize windows and apps on their iPads.

Apple may reveal an iPad multitasking mode at WWDC 2022

New reports have popped up discussing the potential of a new iPad multitasking mode that could let users resize windows. As such, it’s believed that Apple could reveal that update at WWDC 2022 next month.

The reports are based on code discovered within Apple’s WebKit infrastructure on GitHub. New additions to the infrastructure indicate that Apple is adding support for a new multitasking mode. The code seems to suggest users could completely resize windows freely on iPadOS. It’s a feature that many have been looking for since Apple moved the iPad to its own operating system.

The code was first noticed and reported on by Steve Troughton-Smith on Twitter. However, a separate GitHub update from an Apple engineer seems to corroborate the addition of an iPad multitasking mode. Ultimately, Smith believes it could work akin to Windows 10’s “tablet mode”, which can be toggled at any point.

When toggled, tablet mode allows you to move the user interface around easily.

Making iPadOS as powerful as it can be

Apple could add ipad multitasking mode to iPadOS 16Image source: Apple

Since Apple branched iPad’s operating system into its own system, many have hoped that it meant a more powerful experience. However, so far, Apple has been very simplistic with the changes it has instituted. If it does add an iPad multitasking mode, then some believe it could be a good first step towards making iPadOS more powerful.

We’ve previously seen reports of how iOS 16 and iPadOS 16 will change things up. In fact, a new concept video visualized some of the possible new features Apple might drop. It’s a great way to get hyped up about what the company might show at WWDC 2022. It also adds to the excitement over what Apple is doing with its new operating system updates.

Of course, as with any speculative reports, an iPad multitasking mode might not come in iPadOS 16. But, if Apple does drop news about this much-asked-for feature, many could find the iPad even more useful after the next update. Unfortunately, all we can really do is wait and see what Apple shows off when WWDC 2022 kicks off on June 6.

Best Tablets for 2021

A great tablet with a bright, crisp screen and processing power can be transformative when it comes to mobile entertainment. You can enjoy your favorite movies and TV shows on the go with it, but you can also get some work done on your commute, enjoy games, or just chill and listen to music. Tablets are a dime a dozen and most electronics manufacturers have their own brand, making it difficult to discern which one is the best for your budget and unique use case. We’ve put together this guide to help you track down the best tablets.

There are several important factors to consider when buying tablets. First off, you’ll want to consider whether you’re looking for an iOS or Android tablet. Both have their own unique pros and cons, including different app stores, functionality, and of course, ecosystems. If you already enjoy using one type of OS on your smartphone, this will likely make your choice a much simpler one.

It’s also important to consider each tablet’s size and weight for portability reasons, display capabilities, battery life, processor, and storage space. Some tablets are much more powerful than others, but tend to be weaker in the longevity department. Others do allow for expandable storage space, but may not have the desired resolution you’re seeking. You’ll also want to keep your budget in mind when turning over these things in your mind.

It’s time to jump into our picks for the best tablets. Alternatively, check out our guides on the best iPhones, and on the best Android phones.

Pros

  • Modern design
  • Excellent performance
  • Great color options
  • Solid display and speakers

Cons

  • Not cheap

Apple’s svelte iPad Air is like a greatest hits of the best tablet features available. It offers many of the same options as the iPad Pro, only in a much more budget-friendly package. There’s plenty of screen real estate with its 10.9-inch edge-to-edge display, impressive performance that can handle work or play, and an attractive series of colors that mean the tablet looks great with or without a case.

Powered by the extremely capable Apple M1 processor, the iPad Air can handle lush graphics, demanding productivity apps, and anything you want to throw at it, in either 64 or 256GB storage options. Not only can you store all your important pieces of media, but your iPad Air can run it all without a second thought.

The iPad Air also includes the always-useful Touch ID sensor to unlock your device in a flash. It supports both the Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil as well, which make for two very useful options for writers or artists on the go, or anyone looking to use the iPad Air as a reliable laptop or desktop replacement. It’s light, portable, and an all-around delight.

Best Android tablet: Samsung Galaxy Tab S8

Pros

  • Great battery life
  • Thin and light
  • S-Pen included

Cons

  • Android apps don't always work great on tablets

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 is the closest thing Android users will see to the indomitable Apple iPad Pro. This flagship tablet comes packing a powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset, and supports up to 256GB of storage. It also includes an S Pen stylus, which adds a whole new level of interactivity.

The Galaxy Tab S8 is capable of some impressive multitasking. It can easily maintain a variety of apps and browser windows at once with only a minimal amount of stutter when you get too ambitious with your processing power.

The included S Pen connects magnetically, and the tablet itself comes in a variety of colors, though nothing so flashy as the iPad Air’s array of hues. But it looks similar to an iPad Pro, if that’s something that matters to you, and its 11-inch display is absolutely gorgeous.

Best tablet for productivity: Apple iPad Pro

Pros

  • Excellent performance
  • Crisp display
  • Face ID

Cons

  • Expensive
  • Somewhat large for some

With an enormous screen, incredible display, and performance that can’t be beat, the Apple iPad Pro was practically created to be a productivity powerhouse. If getting all the work done you possibly can on the go is important to you, this is the best tablet for jumping in and getting your hands dirty.

For the price, you’re getting a wide variety of performance-focused features, including a Mini-LED display, which allows for richer colors, deeper blacks, and better contrast. Whether you’re working within a word processor or drawing up graphics, you’ll enjoy one of the best screens you can find on a tablet.

In addition, you get the powerful M1 processor, which can run anything you need, from Garage Band to your favorite graphic-intensive mobile game, and everything in between. It also supports the Apple Pencil, Magic Keyboard, and features like Center Stage. This is the desktop-like “laptop” you’ve been searching for.

You will be playing a pretty penny for these features, however. But the return for the price is well worth the entry fee, especially if you’re someone who finds yourself working tirelessly on the go.

Pros

  • Budget-friendly
  • Accessible iOS ecosystem

Cons

  • Few options for storage
  • Aging design

When you’re in the market for an iPad, you don’t have to spring for the most unique or the most full-featured option. An entry-level iPad is still quite capable of handling similar tasks as its more expensive cousins. It’s still well worth picking up to enjoy iOS apps with.

The entry-level iPad may not have the same bells and whistles as the iPad Air or iPad Pro, but it does come packing a 10.2-inch display, Touch ID sensor, and an Apple A13 Bionic chip, which can tackle all the typical niceties you’d expect from one of the tablets in Apple’s ecosystem.

The iPad comes in three different colors, starts at less than $200, and it also can be upgraded to 128GB. It’s nothing too complicated, but it’s a great tablet for essentially any use you may have.

Best budget Android tablet: Amazon Fire HD 10 Tablet

Pros

  • Extremely affordable
  • Sharp screen
  • Great battery

Cons

  • Limited access with Amazon App Store
  • Build isn't as hardy as other tablets

Amazon’s Fire tablets lineup is such as there’s an affordable size option for everyone. The largest, the Fire HD 10, is a fantastically inexpensive tablet that’s perfect for navigating Amazon, using streaming services, and checking out media neatly tucked into a variety of different apps.

The Fire HD 10 comes with either 32GB or 64GB of storage with expansions up to 1TB by way of microSD. It’s hardly the performance powerhouse you’d expect from a pricier iPad or Android device. But for anyone looking to pick up a tablet meant for a quick burst of TV binging here and there or a reliable way to listen to audiobooks, it’s a fantastic purchase.

You can choose from four different color options, and all configurations come with or without Amazon’s “offers” (ads). Pay $15 to remove them before or after you buy one. For just $150 for the standard model, it’s a steal, with several optional configurations you can purchase as well, such as a detachable keyboard case or charging dock that can also double as an Alexa smart display.

Is there a difference between an iPad case and cover?

A cover usually will just attach to the back and then flip over to cover the screen. But it usually provides little protection from falls. A case will protect against falls but may not cover the screen.

Are the best iPad cases even worth it?

It really depends how much you trust yourself when it comes to keeping your iPad safe. If you’re prone to accidents, the case will pay for itself likely. Whether or not you should consider a screen protector is another story but when it comes to a case, almost everyone would be better with one.

Best convertible iPad cases: ZUGU CASE

ZUGU CASE Image source: ZUGU CASE/Amazon

Pros: Options for every version of the iPad, eight different angles

Cons: Adds a little bulk to your iPad

Not only does the ZUGU CASE provide excellent protection for your iPad, but it also provides you with a portable stand, so you can prop it up and use it more easily. We love it for how versatile it is, as there are eight different angles you can set this to. Because of that, you’ll be able to pick the most comfortable position for however you want to use it. This version is compatible with the iPad 10.2″ 7th, 8th, and 9th Gen versions. But there are other versions of this that can cover 9.7″ versions of iPad 6th Gen and the iPad 5th Gen, as well as the iPad Air 1.

You can feel the durability of the dual injection PC/TPU shell that has passed military-grade drop tests from five feet. Because of that, it is a little bulkier than other models. But you pay for the durability. The case is magnetic, so you can even hang it from a metal area to make using and viewing simpler. It has a fiberglass internal structure to cradle your iPad and leave you feeling comfortable having it in the case. ZUGU CASE covers all AppleCare+ repair costs for cracked screens, so you won’t have to worry about that if it happens.

Best mini case: LEDNICEKER Kids Case for iPad Mini 1 2 3 4 5

LEDNICEKER Kids Case for iPad Mini 1 2 3 4 5

Pros: Built-in handle, two kickstand legs

Cons: No screen protection

The iPad Mini has become an extremely popular version of the tablet. For those of you who are looking for a case for either your child or yourself, the LEDNICEKER Kids Case for iPad Mini 1 2 3 4 5 is a great choice. Even though it says it’s a kids’ case, it can be used by adults. There are many different colors to choose from, such as yellow, magenta, blue, red, and orange. You can always just choose the regular black one too. Despite its smaller size, it feels thick, thanks to the foam material.

It covers the backs and sides while extending above the surface to protect as much of the iPad as possible. The built-in handle makes it so simple to carry that you can swing your arms walking down the street with this in your hand. More reasons this is a great choice are the two kickstand legs that turn this case into a stand. You don’t have to worry about the camera and button controls, as those sections of the foam are carved out for easy access. If your child has a new iPad Mini from 2021, they can get a case from SUPNICE, which is listed under the LEDNICEKER store on the Amazon store.

foldable e-reader

E Ink, a popular brand of e-readers has teased a new design concept with its Gallery 3 Color. The new tech, which is shown off in a video on the brand’s YouTube channel actually lets you flip the pages of whatever you’re reading. The design looks similar to the other e-readers that E Ink offers, but there’s one big difference. This new one is a foldable e-reader.

The start of a new era of foldable e-readers

E-readers and e-note devices have been around for a number of years now. In fact, the first Amazon Kindle model came out back in 2007. During that time we’ve seen a number of improvements to these devices, including the introduction of colorized e-readers like the PocketBook Color. With its new Gallery 3, though, E Ink looks like it is trying to take things further by making a foldable e-reader.

The idea here seems to be that a foldable e-reader, especially one that supports colorized pages, could open the door for new electronic formats. By making the device foldable, companies could allow you to read magazines and newspapers more easily on the devices.

These are both areas where e-readers like the Amazon Kindle currently struggle. As such, giving readers a larger, but still easily portable e-reader experience could be a welcome change.

It seems like a logical move forward, especially given how much success Samsung has seen with its foldable devices. But, in a world where the simplicity of Amazon’s Kindle devices is praised, will a foldable e-reader really make much of a difference?

Promising progress

rolling e-reader
E Ink is also testing a rollable e-reader. Image source: E Ink / YouTube

I love reading off my e-reader, and the idea of having a fully colorized version sounds great. However, if the future of foldable e-readers is what E Ink is already showing off, it could do away with a lot of the beloved simplicity of modern-day e-readers.

For one, the video that E Ink shows off showcases as they fold the device in half to turn the page. The refresh rates are still really slow, too, especially compared to non-colored e-readers. That’s, unfortunately, just part of the price of progress for these kinds of things.

One of the best parts about the e-reader experience is being able to read a book easily with one hand.

If these foldable e-readers trend away from that by utilizing the function instead, it could create an interesting dynamic in the market. Of course, they could just offer the standard scrolling and tapping page flips as well. That would let you fold to flip if you wanted.

Either way you fold it, the push by E Ink to create a foldable e-reader is exciting. Although it seems a little unnecessary right now. As companies continue to tweak and perfect the tech, we could see some really cool devices coming out of it.

Tablets play an important role in our digital lives. They can be easier to use for certain tasks than cellphones and are usually more portable than laptops or desktops. Having a tablet allows you the portability and screen size that you want. You can stream shows, listen to music, search the web, and even do homework on a tablet. But tablets can be incredibly expensive. The latest Apple iPad is a great product but it is nearly $320 right now. What you’re probably looking for are the best budget tablets.

The best cheap tablets that you can find allow you to stay within your price range and offer you a tremendous amount of flexibility. These are great tablets that happen to be a little cheaper than the most up-to-date models. Some of them are older versions but still hold up. We’ll run down the best cheap tablets you can find on the market so you can make an educated pick for your wallet.

Best cheap tablet overall: Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 Lite

What the screen looks like
The Samsung Tab A7 Lite Image source: Samsung/Amazon

Pros: Compact and slim design, frame is sturdy and built to last

Cons: Formatting SD cards is a pain, Android 11 is dated

You want your tablet to be easy to carry. You will find that the Samsung Tab A7 Lite is just that. This is extremely lightweight, thanks to its compact and slim design. It has a screen that is 8.7″, so it’s smaller than the regular Tab A7. But this has a sturdy metal frame that allows you to enjoy entertainment on the go. This has a resolution of 1340 x 800 pixels and weighs less than a pound. Unfortunately, it runs Android 11 — which is the last-generation version of Android. We wish Samsung shipped this tablet with Android 12 instead.

The tablet features 32GB of internal memory but it can be expanded up to 1TB. You’ll enjoy two months of ad-free video fun when you purchase this. One UI is generally a bit painful to use thanks to the fact that it comes with some bloatware, but at least Samsung fans will enjoy connectivity with their other Samsung devices. You can get it in gray or silver and it’s an easy tablet to use. Formatting SD cards can be a pain.

The Amazon Fire 7 Kids Pro Tablet Image source: Amazon

Pros: Comes with a subscription to Amazon Kids+, built-in controls to filter out inappropriate content

Cons: Has a micro-USB port

Give your kids one of the best budget tablets on the market with the Amazon Fire 7 Kids Pro tablet. This is under $100 and even frequently is on sale too, so you can keep an eye on the price. This is one of the best cheap tablets for kids because it’s made for children ages six and up and comes with a one-year subscription to Amazon Kids+. That provides your child with over 20,000 apps, games, books, videos, songs, and Audible books. There is educational content that will help them with their school work.

Parents will like that you can approve purchases and downloads to see what your kids are doing on their tablets. There are also built-in controls that filter out any inappropriate content. It features a quad-core processor along with a 7″ display. There are cameras on the front and back and up to 512 GB of expandable storage. It is offered in four colors. Unfortunately, it has a micro-USB port instead of a USB-C port, which is extremely disappointing in 2022.

Pros: Fast and responsive, vivid HD display

Cons: Not as sturdy as other tablets

As we noted in our best tablets post, we are high on the Amazon Fire HD 10 tablet. It is one of the best budget tablets because of its user-friendly interface and its affordability. This has 50% more RAM than previous generations, so it’s fast and responsive. The octa-core processor and long-lasting battery life allow you to use it for longer to do more. With a vivid 10.1″ display, this has more than two million pixels. You can choose either a 32GB or a 64GB option with the ability to upgrade it to 1TB of storage space.

It’s great for TV binging and lets you stay connected with Zoom. You can enjoy Netflix, Hulu, TikTok, and so many more apps. You can choose between the option that has Amazon ads or not. There are four color options to choose from: black, olive, lavender, or denim. Control it with your voice, thanks to the Alexa technology built-in. It may not feel as sturdy as other tablets on the market. But you can add a tablet case to it potentially to beef it up.

Even if you choose three free months of Kindle Unlimited and get rid of ads, it’s only $109. Plus, this is frequently on sale.
