For some time now, the Mercedes GLS-Class has offered drivers an S-Class experience in a bigger body, and with some serious success. The GLS-Class has remained among the more premium SUV options out there, often going head to head against BMW’s high-end SUVs, and regularly beating it. For 2022, the Mercedes GLS 450 4Matic has a few new AMG styling options and some new colors.

That may not seem like much — and it’s not. But that’s not necessarily a bad thing. What does matter is the fact that the GLS-Class now faces stiff competition from the slew of new electric SUVs, like the BMW iX. Sure, those buying an electric car may not consider an option like the GLS 450 — but those considering the GLS 450 may still be thinking about whether or not they want to electrify their drive.

2022 Mercedes GLS 450 4Matic exterior design

Have you seen a Mercedes SUV before? Then you pretty much know what the Mercedes GLS 450 4Matic looks like. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, but generally, the Mercedes GLS 450 isn’t the most unique-looking SUV from Mercedes.

I still like the general look of it though. You’ll get that large Mercedes grille, with a large Mercedes logo in the center, and the front of the car, while generic, still looks relatively premium.

Mercedes GLS 450 GrilleImage source: Christian de Looper for BGR

That’s true for the rest of the car too. I quite like the tapered look for the car, and while it does mean that the car looks a little…bulbous, it’s far from bad-looking.

Our car has the AMG Line package, which means that it gets a number of exterior styling upgrades. Notably, the car has 21-inch AMG wheels, which I think look awesome. Other details include painted wheel arches. It’s far from necessary, but some will appreciate the upgrades.

Generally, the Mercedes isn’t all that unique on the outside, but it still looks like a high-end, premium Mercedes SUV.

2022 Mercedes GLS 450 4Matic interior design

The interior of the GLS 450 4Matic is about as premium as you would expect. That’s to say, it’s extremely premium. It’s laden with high-end, comfortable materials, and frankly, I found the interior of this car to beat out the majority of the competition.

Mercedes GLS 450 ControlsImage source: Christian de Looper for BGR

Our model is built with black leather, and I really like the look. I tend to prefer dark materials in the cabin to lighter ones, mostly because of the fact that it avoids looking worn for longer. Note, the leather is faux here, but you would have a hard time knowing if you didn’t read a spec sheet.

All the controls and buttons are pretty much where you would expect them to be, and they’re very easy to use. I really like having physical controls for things like climate. Speaking of, the SUV offers quad-zone climate controls, which makes remaining comfortable for you and your passengers easier.

The GLS 450 4Matic offers three rows of seating, and depending on the model you get, you’ll have either six or seven seats. It’s not quite the eight seats that you’ll get on some three-row SUVs, but should still be enough for most people.

There are a range of helpful features in the cabin that make the car a more premium experience. Notably, at the front, there’s a 12.3-inch touch display, with a touchpad controller on the center console. Around the cabin, there are quite a few USB ports for charging, so you’ll never have to worry about your devices running out of charge.

2022 Mercedes GLS 450 4Matic infotainment

As mentioned, the GLS 450 4Matic offers a main 12.3-inch touch display, which comes loaded with Mercedes’ MBUX infotainment system. The system is relatively easy to use, though it still doesn’t quite reach the familiarity and ease-of-use of systems like CarPlay and Android Auto. The mapping system is better-designed than most, and while you do have to swipe around quite a bit to get to most features, at least it looks pretty most of the time.

Mercedes GLS 450 InfotainmentImage source: Christian de Looper for BGR

Unlike many other cars, I found the infotainment system here to be mostly responsive, reacting to touch quicker than much of the competition. Again, it isn’t as responsive as phone-based infotainment systems, so don’t expect it to be. Of course, phone-based infotainment systems are particularly responsive in this car because they have to be plugged in. That’s right — there’s no wireless CarPlay or Android Auto. Those features are only accessible through a wired connection, which was pretty frustrating to see.

2022 Mercedes GLS 450 4Matic performance

The GLS 450 is the lowest-end of the 2022 GLS-Class Mercedes SUVs — with the others being the Mercedes GLS 580, the AMG GLS 63, and the Maybach GLS 600. But unless you really care about getting the best performance you can from your SUV, the GLS 450 4Matic is still more than powerful enough for the vast majority of drivers.

Mercedes GLS 450 WheelImage source: Christian de Looper for BGR

The car offers a 362-horsepower turbocharged six-cylinder engine, and while it generally wasn’t the most responsive, it was able to deliver enough oomph for most situations. All of the GLS-Class SUVs in 2022 offer the mild-hybrid EQ Boost system that can help the car accelerate a little quicker. The system doesn’t drastically improve fuel efficiency, but the extra little boost does come in handy. Of course, don’t expect that electrified responsiveness that you’ll get from modern electric cars and some full hybrid models.

Acceleration aside, the SUV offers a very smooth ride and is able to corner with ease. It’s not the sportiest-feeling SUV out there, but it is one of the smoothest.

2022 Mercedes GLS 450 4Matic driver assist

As you would expect from any premium vehicle in 2022, the Mercedes GLS 450 4Matic offers a number of safety and driver-assist features that could come in handy — though many of them are only available if you pay for them. The base model offers things like blind-spot monitoring and a backup-camera — things that any car in 2022 should offer. Not necessarily standard on other cars is the parking assistant, which does come in the base model here.

Mercedes GLS 450 FrontImage source: Christian de Looper for BGR

Pay for upgrades, however, and you’ll get things like an adaptive cruise control that can be coupled with a lane-keeping system to make for a self-driving-like experience on the highway.

Conclusions

BGR Gold Award 2022

The Mercedes GLS 450 4Matic is an extremely luxurious SUV, and one that’s well worth considering for anyone in the market for a luxury SUV. The exterior styling may not be the most unique out there, but the combination of the luxurious interior, smooth ride, and premium features make it a top contender.

The competition

Perhaps the biggest competition in this price range comes from the BMW X7, which is a little more fuel-efficient, though not quite as spacious on the back row. That said, you’ll be happy with either the GLS 450 or the BMW X7.

Should I buy the 2022 Mercedes GLS 450 4Matic?

Yes. It’s an excellent luxury SUV.

After more than a 2-year hiatus, Uber Pool is finally coming back. The ridesharing feature which allows passengers to split the cost of a trip with individuals traveling in the same direction was temporarily suspended in early 2022 right as the coronavirus pandemic began. Today, Uber announced that Uber Pool is back, albeit with a new name: UberX Share.

Uber Pool is now UberX Share

As part of a rebrand, the Uber Pool name is being tossed aside and is being replaced with UberX Share. UberX Share originally debuted a pilot program in Miami and is now coming to 8 cities across the US: New York City, Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Pittsburgh, Indianapolis, Portland, Oregon, and San Diego.

Uber details how a typical UberX Share trip operates below:

  1. Accept a trip, as you would with UberX for your first rider. The Driver app will search for ways to pick up more riders along the way.
  2. You’ll be notified when another rider is added, your route will update automatically.
  3. If a rider doesn’t arrive at the pickup location within 2 minutes, you’ll have the option to cancel and receive the cancellation fee.
  4. Riders only get the full UberX Share discount on their price if you pick up a co-rider. We designed it this way so riders would be welcoming to each other while in your car.

How the new service works

While similar to Uber Pool, UberX Share does incorporate several minor changes gleaned after months of research and customer feedback.

With the new service, riders who choose to use UberX Share will get a discount upfront. Passengers can enjoy additional savings — up to 20% off the total ride — if another passenger joins the trip.

Thankfully, Uber is addressing a longstanding frustration with Uber Pool, namely that shared rides can sometimes add an exorbitant amount of time to a given trip. To streamline matters, UberX Share will only match riders with passengers heading in the same general direction. Uber notes that the new service is designed such that no more than 8 minutes will be added to a trip relative to a standard UberX ride.

Notably, Uber didn’t mention when UberX Share will expand to additional cities. That said, we imagine it won’t be long before the rollout goes nationwide.

Incidentally, Lyft earlier this year also brought back shared rides. Similar to Uber, Lyft is rolling out the feature slowly. As it stands now, shared rides on Lyft are only available in a handful of cities. That list includes San Francisco, Philadelphia, Miami, San Jose, Denver, Las Vegas, and Atlanta.

With gas prices soaring, it’s nice to see that shared rides are finally coming back.

2022 BMW iX Main

BMW’s EV strategy has been a little weird, but finally, it seems like the company is forming a cohesive electric strategy. The BMW i4, for example, is an excellent and luxurious electric coupe. But it also has a bigger sibling — the BMW iX — which is available as the BMW iX M60, and the BMW iX xDrive50. We’re reviewing the latter.

In many ways, the BMW iX is far more important than the i4, just because of the sheer number of people going for crossovers and SUVs as opposed to sedans and smaller cars. It’s also, of course, more expensive — and in fact, more expensive than many of the other electric crossovers and SUVs out there.

Does the BMW do enough to justify its price? I’ve been using it for a while now to find out.

Pros

  • Handsome exterior
  • Premium interior
  • Good range and charging
  • Good handling
  • Great performance

Cons

  • iDrive is buggy
  • Expensive

2022 BMW iX xDrive50 exterior design

I’m going to say it, and this is me being vulnerable. The grille is fine. I’m used to it. It’s big and unapologetic, and I certainly understand why many don’t like it. But I don’t mind it anymore. That huge grille is flanked by two slim lights, and generally, the front of the car looks fine.

2022 BMW iX FrontImage source: Christian de Looper for BGR

The rest of the car looks pretty great too, and perhaps less controversial. It looks like a modern crossover, with a slightly sloped roof, and a hatchback rear. On the back of the car, you’ll find two slim rear lights, and I really like the look of them. The rear in general looks sleek and stylish.

As mentioned, the car is available in a few different trims, and they do change some of the exterior styling a little. For example, there are two larger side grilles on the front of the M60, however the xDrive50 seems to have more black highlights, though it’s not as easy to see those on our dark gray model. Also, I don’t like the base wheels on the xDrive50 at all — but our review model has 22-inch wheels that look very nice.

Generally, I like the exterior design of the BMW iX xDrive50. It’s not for everyone, but I think most will get used to it if they don’t like it right away.

2022 BMW iX xDrive50 interior design

The interior design isn’t just nice — it’s stunning. The car is decked out with beautiful soft materials, and it’s clearly built with a premium experience in mind. It steps things up from most modern BMWs too — and that says a lot, as I have really liked the interior of most modern BMWs.

There are a number of touches that make this car high-tech and premium. There’s a big panoramic sunroof, for example, that offers electrochromic shading as an option — an option that we have, and I like.

2022 BMW iX InteriorImage source: Christian de Looper for BGR

In the center console, you’ll get a number of controls for the software, drive modes, and so on. There’s a rotary dial here that comes in handy for those who don’t want to have to constantly reach for the touchscreen.

I did have a few issues though. For example, the cupholders are in a pretty hard-to-reach spot, and they should have been up in front of, or behind, the center console instead of where they are. I also would have liked to see a little more storage at the front for things like keys and wallets. But those are minor issues. Generally, I loved the look and feel of the 2022 BMW iX interior.

2022 BMW iX xDrive50 infotainment

The infotainment on the BMW iX comes in the form of a nice, big, 14.9-inch display. It’s the same display found in the BMW i4 xDrive40, and that’s a good thing. The display in that car gets bright enough for all situations, and generally looks great.

2022 BMW iX InstrumentImage source: Christian de Looper for BGR

Under the hood, the car offers BMW’s iDrive 8 platform, which is currently only available on BMW EVs. It’s a step forward over iDrive 7, but still pretty lackluster. It’s easy to navigate, but it looks dated, and you’ll get used to how it looks and feels. Thankfully, however, you don’t have to use iDrive at all if you don’t want to. The car supports both CarPlay and Android Auto through a wireless connection, so you can use your phone for infotainment instead. You’ll still have to interact with iDrive for climate controls, and I would prefer physical controls for that — but thankfully, the climate controls are relatively responsive here.

I did have a number of issues with CarPlay connectivity on iDrive 8. The car disconnected from CarPlay a number of times, and sometimes multiple times in one trip. One time, I had to completely reset iDrive, forget the Bluetooth connection on my phone, and set it up as a new connection to get it to work again.

2022 BMW iX xDrive50 performance

The BMW iX xDrive50 may look and feel great, but how does it actually perform? Turns out, it performs excellently. The car is fast and responsive, handles like a champion, and is really quite fun to drive.

2022 BMW iX ControlsImage source: Christian de Looper for BGR

This particular version of the car offers a pair of electric motors that combined, can deliver up to 516-horsepower, and you’ll get that awesome electric zip that we’ve come to expect from high-end electric cars. The ride is smooth, and despite its larger size, it easily makes its way around a corner without too much lean.

2022 BMW iX xDrive50 battery and charging

The 2022 BMW iX xDrive50 is powered by a 105.2kWh battery pack that is rated as offering up to 324 miles of range on a charge — which seemed about right. I was pleasantly surprised with the car’s range, only needing a single charge on a 5-hour road trip.

2022 BMW iX WheelImage source: Christian de Looper for BGR

The car supports fast charging, but not as fast as I would have liked. It tops out at 200kW, which is pretty good. But with cars like the Kia EV6, which support charging at up to 350kW, it can feel a little slow at times. I hope manufacturers at least try to build the fastest charging they can into their cars.

2022 BMW iX xDrive50 driver assist

The car offers a host of driver-assist features that could come in handy, though don’t necessarily expect this to be the futuristic car of your dreams just because it’s electric. Like BMW’s gas-powered cousins, the iX xDrive50 has a backup-camera with an option for the 360-degree view that I’ve come to love. And, it has an adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assistant that can make the car feel almost self-driving in some situations. You still have to keep your hands on the wheel, unlike General Motors’ SuperCruise, but it works pretty well.

Conclusions

BGR Gold Award 2022

The 2022 BMW iX xDrive50 is an excellent option for those who want a premium electric car that looks and feels high-end, with the zippiness of an EV. Of course, it’s expensive, and it’s not perfect — you’ll have to deal with iDrive 8, for example. But if you like BMW in general, and want something a little bigger than the i4, the iX is the way to go.

The competition

There’s a ton of competition in the crossover EV space, and much of it is cheaper and more high-tech than the BMW iX. Notable competition, of course, comes from the Tesla Model Y, which offers better software and charging infrastructure, but not as nice of an interior. There are also cars like the Kia EV6 and Hyundai Ioniq 5, which are a bit higher-tech, but not as premium in general.

Should I buy the 2022 BMW iX xDrive50?

Yes. You’ll pay for a premium experience, but for many it’s worth the cash.

BMW i4 eDrive40 Main

BMW is finally getting serious about electric. Over the past few years, it has released a number of plug-in hybrid and electric models, with cars like the BMW i4 leading the pack. The latest high-end i4, called the BMW i4 eDrive40, sits kind of in no-mans land. It’s more luxurious and more expensive than the Tesla Model 3, Kia EV6, and Hyundai Ioniq 5, but it doesn’t reach the heights of the Model S or Mercedes EQS.

It may live in the middle when it comes to price, but ultimately, it’s far closer to the top-end when it comes to quality. The car is far from perfect — but it proves that BMW is well-positioned to compete in an electrified car world, keeping everything that you know and love about modern BMWs, and adding an electric powertrain.

All that said, the BMW i4 still feels like a bit of a safe play from BMW. It doesn’t reinvent the wheel — and sat inside, it looks and feels like a modern gas-powered BMW. That, however, isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

Pros

  • Comfortable ride
  • Good performance
  • Solid range
  • Stylish design

Cons

  • Still not cheap
  • Not as quick as some of the competition

2022 BMW i4 eDrive40 exterior design

The outside of the BMW i4 is almost identical to other 4-series cars. That’s not a bad thing — I really like the exterior design of the latest 4-series, though admittedly I’m still getting used to the oversized grille on the front. In BMW’s parlance, the i4 eDrive40 is a Gran Coupe, and it looks like the also-four-door 4 Series gran Coupe.

BMW i4 eDrive40 FrontImage source: Christian de Looper for BGR

Speaking of the grille, it is, of course, a little different on the i4 than a typical 4-series, but from afar it still looks similar. While the i4 doesn’t need cooling in the same way as a typical 4 Series car, the grille on the front of this car still houses a number of sensors and the front-facing camera.

There’s plenty of styling around the car that helps make it looks sleek and stylish. The car also offers a number of sleek blue highlights — signifying that the car is electric. And on the back, instead of the exhaust pipes, you’ll get an air diffuser.

BMW i4 eDrive40 SideImage source: Christian de Looper for BGR

The wheels on the i4 eDrive40 are typically 18 inches, but our review model has been upgraded with 19-inch wheels, which look awesome. You’ll pay for the privilege, but many will be happy to shell out for it.

2022 BMW i4 eDrive40 interior design

Much of the interior of the BMW i4 eDrive40 is similar to other 4 Series cars, but like on the outside, there are a few differences to note. Regardless, however, the car is still comfortable and premium, offering beautiful stitched leather throughout and easy-to-access controls that you’ll get used to in a heartbeat.

BMW i4 eDrive40 InteriorImage source: Christian de Looper for BGR

At the back of the car, you’ll get a solid amount of room for passengers, and even adults should be able to sit comfortably in the back with the legroom and headroom available. The legroom isn’t huge, but it’s definitely enough for most situations, and that helps make the car a decent choice for the family.

The trunk room in the car does leave a little to be desired. The hatchback opens to 10 cubic-feet of space, however, you can fold down the rear seats to increase the space as needed. It’s enough for day-to-day use and grocery shopping, but not much more than that.

Of course, perhaps the biggest difference between this and a typical 4 Series is the big, expansive display at the front.

2022 BMW i4 eDrive40 infotainment

The infotainment display on the BMW i4 eDrive40 is a beautiful 14.9-inch touchscreen that gets bright enough for the vast majority of use-cases, and houses BMW’s latest infotainment system, iDrive 8. The display is bigger than the i4’s non-electric siblings, highlighting the tech-forward approach.

BMW i4 eDrive40 InfotainmentImage source: Christian de Looper for BGR

iDrive 8 is a definite step forward over the previous-generation iDrive 7, but it’s still not the beautifully-designed interface that you might want from your car. The interface is organized into a home screen, with an app grid for the rest of the features. You can navigate the interface with a rotary dial on the center console, or just by using touch. It’s fine, and you’ll get used to the overall layout. And, the interface was relatively responsive to touch, which is more than many competitors can claim.

Thankfully, you don’t have to use iDrive 8 all that much if you don’t want to. The car supports both Android Auto and CarPlay through a wireless connection, making it super easy to avoid the car’s built-in infotainment system.

2022 BMW i4 eDrive40 performance

One of the best things about electric cars is that they’re extremely responsive and able to get fast, quick. The BMW i4 is no exception to that rule — it sprints from the start line, getting to 60 in 5.5 seconds. It’s not as quick as some of the other options out there, or even the M50 model, which gets to 60 in under four seconds. But it still feels plenty quick, and easily fast enough for a sporty-feeling experience.

As you might expect from a modern electric car, you can set the car to use regenerative braking to charge the battery as you drive. Some other reviews note that the regenerative braking is too sensitive — but you can set the sensitivity of the braking in the settings. I generally like single-pedal driving, so I set regenerative braking to the maximum amount.

BMW i4 eDrive40 ControlsImage source: Christian de Looper for BGR

The car has three different driving modes: “Eco Pro,” “Comfort,” and “Sport.” Considering the fact that I wasn’t planning on taking this car on any longer road trips, I kept it in Sport — which feels noticeably more responsive than the other modes.

Now, let’s get something out of the way. This looks and feels much like other sporty BMWs out there, but some others do feel a little more engaging. Some of that simply has to do with the feel of a high-end gas-powered car — which is its own thing. This is a different thing — but if you can look past that, its just as fun.

2022 BMW i4 eDrive40 battery and charging

The BMW i4 eDrive40 has a 80.7 kWh battery, and it’s able to power the car for up to 300 miles — which is on the higher-end of electric cars in 2022. You’ll get a lower drive, in exchange for higher performance, with the M50 model. You’ll have to decide if that’s worth doing for your needs, but I prefer having more range.

BMW i4 eDrive40 RearImage source: Christian de Looper for BGR

Other things will affect range too. For example, if you take full advantage of the Sport mode, you’ll get a little less range than if you keep the car in Eco Pro. Likewise, if you use heavier regenerative braking, you’ll get a longer range than you would without any regenerative braking.

Charging the car is pretty easy. While it doesn’t quite reach the heights of the 350kWh charging on offer by the likes of the Kia EV6, it does charge at up to 200kWh. That allows it to charge to 80% in around 30 minutes, which is not bad at all. A level 2 home charger, with a charging speed of 11kWh, will get the car charged overnight.

2022 BMW i4 eDrive40 driver assist

The BMW i4 eDrive40 offers a number of safety and driver-assist features that could come in handy — however you’ll have to pay for the privilege of using some of them. I would argue that too many of the features require an upgrade, given the fact that more and more cars are offering smart features these days.

BMW i4 eDrive40 WheelImage source: Christian de Looper for BGR

On the base model, you’ll get a backup camera and things like blind-spot monitoring, which seems like the bare minimum. You’ll have to add the Driver Assistant Pro package, which we had in our review model, for some of the other features. The package will get you adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping allowing the car to essentially drive itself on the highway. There’s also the Parking Assistance Package, which we also had, and lets the car park itself in some situations, and gives you a 360-degree camera view, which is super helpful.

Conclusions

BGR Gold Award 2022

The BMW i4 eDrive40 is a great middle-ground between the cheaper electric cars in the sub-$50,000 range, and the more expensive luxury options. It boasts a comfortable ride, a fun driving experience, and more.

The competition

There is a ton of competition in the electric car world, but if you want luxury without paying an arm and a leg, then the BMW i4 eDrive40 is an excellent option. If you’re willing to pay more, you can get better performance with the M50 model, though you’ll sacrifice performance to get it. Alternatively, if you’re willing to pay a lot more, you could go for something like the Porsche Taycan, Lucid Air, or Tesla Model S.

Should I buy the 2022 BMW i4 eDrive40?

Yes. It serves as a great middle-ground between the high-end and cheaper electric cars.

What is the range of the BMW i4?

The BMW i4 offers up to 301 miles of range on the i4 eDrive40, or up to 270 miles of range on the i4 M50.

How long does it take to charge the BMW i4?

It depends on how fast the charging station is. The BMW i4 supports charging at up to 200kW, and at that speed, you should be able to charge to 80% in around 30 minutes.

Car and Driver INTELLIDASH Plus

So many people out there are in search of a good Apple CarPlay screen for their car. If you already have CarPlay in your car or truck, you obviously know why it’s so desirable.

To be frank, the infotainment systems in most cars are terrible. Sure, they’ve been getting better lately. But not everyone is in the market for a new car. On top of that, why bother with a proprietary infotainment system when you can just access all the great apps on your iPhone? The same is true of Android Auto, of course.

If you don’t already have Apple CarPlay or Android Auto in your car, we have something you need to see. It’s called the Car and Driver INTELLIDASH Plus. It adds CarPlay or Android Auto to any car in seconds, with no installation required.

And best of all, it’s on sale right now with a rare $75 discount!

Apple CarPlay screen for any car

The Car and Driver INTELLIDASH Plus is an ideal solution for anyone who doesn’t want a complicated installation.

Installing a built-in unit with CarPlay is nice, but not everyone wants to deal with the hassle. Plus, it’s not even possible in many cars these days. Streamlined interior designs mean traditional aftermarket single DIN and double DIN car stereos don’t work in many models.

Car and Driver INTELLIDASH Plus: Apple CarPlay Screen For Car

Car and Driver’s awesome solution is here to save the day. In a matter of seconds, you have an Apple CarPlay screen for any car. All of the main features you would enjoy with built-in CarPlay are supported.

As a matter of fact, you’ll get extra features that aren’t even in normal CarPlay-equipped cars.

Examples include integrated SiriusXM support, YouTube, special Waze support, and more. Plus, the same can be said if you use Android Auto instead. And unlike similar solutions, this model also includes support for Android Auto, not just Apple CarPlay.

INTELLIDASH Plus quick review

Car and Driver INTELLIDASHWe’ve been testing the Car and Driver INTELLIDASH Plus and it works quite well. It’s not exactly the same as having built-in CarPlay support in your vehicle, but this is as close as it gets. It’s also cool to be able to swap the unit from one car to another with ease.

Plus, there’s another version called the INTELLIDASH Pro that supports wireless CarPlay. Most people probably plug their phones into power anyway. But it’s nice to have the option to go wireless if you want to.

The INTELLIDASH Plus sells for $349.99, but it’s on sale right now on Amazon with a rare discount. That means you’ll pay much less than you would if you bought it at Walmart or another retailer.

Meanwhile, the upgraded INTELLIDASH Pro with wireless CarPlay support retails for $399.99.

LANMODO Vast Pro Dash Cam

We have some exciting news for BGR Deals readers today. The best dash cam deal on Amazon right now saves you $100 or more off an awesome new model. But it’s not just a dash cam — it also adds stunning night vision in full color to any car!

This is definitely a deal you don’t want to miss.

When night vision systems first began appearing in cars, I was skeptical. Then, I actually tried one out.

Drivers absolutely love having the ability to see more clearly while they drive around at night. And it’s not just useful for people with poor vision, either. Night vision features can help anyone see better and farther in the dark.

On top of that, these systems also help improve visibility in the rain and snow. Who wouldn’t want to see better in a storm?

Of course, that brings us to the main problem with night vision systems in cars: they’re typically only available on expensive luxury cars that cost a fortune. But not if you score one of Amazon’s best dash cam deals.

The barrier to entry was exactly why my interest was piqued when Lanmodo reached out about its latest dash cam. They asked if I wanted to test the brand new Lanmodo Vast Pro Dash Cam, which also adds clear night vision to any car.

It’s easy to install in any car, and it’s on sale right now at Amazon with a deep discount. In fact, it costs $100 less on Amazon right now than it does on the Lanmodo website!

Amazon’s best dash cam deal

The Lanmodo Vast Pro Dash Cam is an awesome device that kills two birds with one stone. First, it adds crystal clear night vision to any car. Second, it functions as a dashcam as well. That means you can record everything that happens as you drive.

The special Parking Mode feature will also record when it detects movement. Never again will you have to worry about proving your innocence if you’re in an accident that wasn’t your fault.

The unit has a nice big 8-inch HD display that gives you a clear view of the road ahead. After all, a night vision system isn’t terribly useful if you can’t make anything out on the screen.

And at night, when night vision is enabled, it’s not that annoying green video that looks so weird. You get full-color night vision that lets you see distances up to 984 feet ahead of you.

LANMODO Vast Pro Dash Cam: Amazon best dash cam deal

A premium Sony sensor records crystal-clear 1080p video. There’s also a second model that includes a rearview camera you mount in the back of your car. That way, the dashcam records video in both directions and it doesn’t miss anything.

Pricing for the Lanmodo Vast Pro Dash Cam started at $369 for the single-camera model when it was released last year. As a matter of fact, it still costs $369 if you buy it right now on the Lanmodo website. Then, the dual-cam version sells for $439.

Head over to Amazon right now, however, and both versions have lower retail prices and extra discounts.

The single-camera version of the Lanmodo Vast Pro is just $269.99 when you clip the coupon on the product page. Meanwhile, the upgraded dual-camera model is on sale for $314.99.

These truly some of the best Amazon dash cam deals we’ve seen in a long time.

Cadillac XT6 Main

Looking for a mid-size SUV? There’s no shortage of options in 2022, and the options that have been around for a while are getting better and better. The Cadillac XT6 is aimed at those who want a luxury three-row SUV that doesn’t cost Escalade-type money, yet still retains some of the comforts and features that you would expect from a high-end vehicle.

But as mentioned, the 2022 Cadillac XT6 is up against a ton of competition. There are other luxury options, like the BMW X5, and much more affordable options, like the super-popular Kia Telluride. In terms of price, the Cadillac XT6 sits pretty much in the middle.

Does it do enough to hold its own in such a competitive landscape?

2022 Cadillac XT6

Rating: 3.5 Stars
2022 Cadillac XT6

Pros

  • Good-looking exterior
  • Plenty of interior room
  • High-tech features
  • Easy to use infotainment

Cons

  • Competition has more luxurious interior
  • Performance only fine

2022 Cadillac XT6 exterior design

If you’re familiar with other modern Cadillacs, you’ll instantly recognize the exterior styling of the Cadillac XT6. You’ll get the classy shield-shaped grille, with nice mean-looking headlights, and that big shiny Cadillac logo in the middle. I really like the look of the front of this car. It can feel a little busy at times, but not overly so.

Cadillac XT6 Front SideImage source: Christian de Looper for BGR

The side profile of the car is relatively handsome too. The car is a little boxy, but that translates to more interior space, which helps on a car like this. You will get a nice slightly sloped roof, and sculpted lines along the side of the car, helping make it look more premium. This car comes standard with roof rails.

The stylish does shift a little depending on the trim you go for. The wheels change between all the different models, however, they all come standard with 20-inch wheels that can be upgraded to 21-inch wheels if you want. We’re reviewing the Premium Luxury model.

2022 Cadillac XT6 interior design

The interior is premium and luxurious too. The car offers high-end features like front seat heating and cooling, along with nice stitched materials throughout, and high-end plastics where plastic is used. It’s not quite as premium as, say, the BMW X5, but it’s still very nice.

Cadillac XT6 SpaceImage source: Christian de Looper for BGR

The car is available in both seven-seat and eight-seat layouts, with the seven-seat models offering nicer second-row seats that better suit adult passengers. The front seats do offer decent adjustability, however, a little more adjustability would have been nice. For example, thigh cushion extension is common on luxury cars these days, and you won’t get that here. That said, the interior of the car is still quite comfortable, and you’ll get tri-zone climate control. Like in some other Cadillac cars, there’s a nice slot for your phone’s wireless charging, which ensures that you don’t have to put it on the perfect spot.

As you would expect from a car like this, there is plenty of storage if you’re willing to put down some of the seats. With all of the seats up, you’ll only get 12.6 cu-ft, which isn’t a ton. But with the seats down, you’ll get a much more impressive 78.7 cu-ft, which is enough for most. If you want a car that boasts a lot of storage with all the seats up, you’ll need to keep looking, but if you think you’ll only need that extra storage from time to time, this should do the job.

2022 Cadillac XT6 infotainment

The Cadillac XT6 comes with a nice 8-inch display, and it gets bright enough for the vast majority of situations, even in direct sunlight. It sports Cadillac’s infotainment system that’s relatively easy to navigate, but not very well-designed — like most built-in infotainment systems. Thankfully, I didn’t find it to be overly laggy or unresponsive.

Cadillac XT6 InteriorImage source: Christian de Looper for BGR

Even better than the lack of lag is the fact that the system supports CarPlay and Android Auto wireless. That means that you don’t have to interact with the built-in infotainment system at all. You can rely on your phone for your infotainment instead.

In the car, you’ll get a rotary knob to control the infotainment system, if you don’t want to use the touchscreen. This is a feature that many manufacturers are getting rid of, but I’m glad to see it still here.

2022 Cadillac XT6 performance

Buyers of the 2022 Cadillac XT6 have a choice between a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine that can deliver 237-hp, or a 3.6-liter six-cylinder engine that can deliver 310-hp. You’ll get a nine-speed automatic transmission regardless, and you can get the car in either RWD or AWD.

Cadillac XT6 ControlsImage source: Christian de Looper for BGR

Our review car has the V6 engine with AWD, and it certainly feels powerful. The car is relatively responsive and quick to accelerate, however, it definitely prioritizes luxury and interior room over being a performance-focused car. I would actually recommend most stick with the V6 engine over the V4 one. The car isn’t in AWD by default — you’ll need to turn it on if and when you need it.

Generally, the car has pretty precise and responsive steering, too. It does suffer from torque steer a little (where the steering wheel can pull a little to the side when you accelerate), but you’ll get used to the feel.

2022 Cadillac XT6 driver assist

The 2022 Cadillac XT6 comes with some driver-assist features that might be helpful — though you may have to pay to get them. Our review model, for example, comes with Chevrolet’s Super Cruise, which allows it to drive hands-free on certain roads, mostly highways and freeways. It definitely comes in handy on longer commutes.

Cadillac XT6 RearImage source: Christian de Looper for BGR

Other features include a backup camera, and a 360-degree camera view, which I really like. And, there’s an automatic parking assist feature with braking.

Conclusions

The Cadillac XT6 is a high-end, luxurious SUV with plenty of room for passengers and cargo. It’s powerful enough for most situations, and offers a relatively stylish exterior.

But the car doesn’t necessarily do enough to take out the competition.

The competition

Perhaps the biggest competition in the midsize SUV space comes from the likes of the Genesis GV80, which boasts a luxurious interior, a stunning exterior, and powerful performance. It’s probably the best option in this price range right now. It’s also worth considering the BMW X5, which is a little more luxurious on the inside, but also a fair bit more expensive. And, there’s the Volvo XC90, which is a little more expensive, but also probably a better option.

Should I buy the 2022 Cadillac XT6?

No. It’s a great car, but there are better options in this price range.

Kia is killing it. Between recent models of the EV6, the Stinger, the Carnival, and the Telluride, the company has come out with hit after hit. So much so, that it’s easy to forget about its older models — but you shouldn’t. For 2022, the Sorento has been updated to offer a plug-in hybrid model, making it a compelling alternative to the larger and less efficient Telluride.

The Sorento isn’t just good for efficiency though. It’s also stylish, offers a solid infotainment system, and more. But it also goes up against serious competition — from Kia itself, and the likes of Jeep and Hyundai.

2022 Kia Sorento

Rating: 4 Stars
BGR may receive a commission

Pros

  • Sleek exterior
  • Comfortable interior
  • Fuel-conscious
  • Smart driver-assist features
  • Lots of room

Cons

  • Slightly slow response
  • No CarPlay Wireless

2022 Kia Sorento exterior design

Kia redesigned the Sorento last year, but it’s not a bad thing that it hasn’t received any major updates this year. The 2022 Kia Sorento looks sleek and stylish, plus offers a few modern touches that help it look current.

On the front of the Sorento, you’ll find Kia’s now-signature tiger-nose grille, which flows into the headlights and makes for a refined and smooth look. There’s another bottom grille too, which makes for a slightly busy, yet far from ugly front.

2022 Kia Sorento FrontImage source: Christian de Looper for BGR

While the Sorento is an SUV, it doesn’t looks as bulky or big as some of the competition. The side profile flows nicely, and you’d easily be forgiven for forgetting that it actually stores three rows of seats inside. The rear of the car looks great too, with slotted rear headlights that give it a modern and unique touch.

The outside styling does change a little depending on the trim that you get, but not drastically. Some trims add nice black accents, while others give you different bumper and wheel designs. We’re reviewing the Kia Sorento SX-Prestige Plug-in hybrid, which is one of only two models of Sorento plug-in hybrids — the other being the SX. Ours is in the Snow White Pearl color, and while I’m not normally one for white cars, I like the look of it in person.

2022 Kia Sorento interior design

The interior is premium and stylish, and quite comfortable. Our model has the black synthetic interior, and it feels great. You’ll find nice stitching throughout, and generally premium materials at the front.

2022 Kia Sorento ControlsImage source: Christian de Looper for BGR

As mentioned, this car offers three rows, with seven seats. In using the third-row seats, you definitely cut down on trunk storage, and I would argue that this probably isn’t the best option for those who permanently need the third row. That said, for those who occasionally need a few extra seats, it’s perfect. With the third row of seats up, you’ll get 12.6 cubic feet of space, while with the Telluride, you’ll get 21 cubic feet with all three rows of seats up.

Controls are the front are easy to use and get used to. You’ll find a rotary dial for changing gears, and another to change drive modes. And, there are simple buttons for things like the parking cameras, and steering wheel heater. Climate controls are a mix of real buttons and switches, and capacitive buttons. The capacitive buttons are pretty easy to reach, and while you won’t get feedback for pressing them, you’ll get used to the placement.

2022 Kia Sorento infotainment

The infotainment system in the Kia Sorento is the same as all other modern Kia cars — which is to say, it’s great. It’s responsive and easy to navigate, and it supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Only one problem — both Android Auto and CarPlay are only available through a wired connection, which seems crazy. It’s 2022, and those systems should be available wirelessly, like most other modern cars that support Auto and CarPlay.

Still, Kia’s infotainment is better than the vast majority of the competition, whether you actually use it or not. The system is laid out like a smartphone, with an app screen that lets you dive into specific features, and you’ll be able to navigate it pretty easily.

2022 Kia Sorento performance

The Kia Sorento is available as a gas-powered car, a traditional hybrid, and a plug-in hybrid. We’re reviewing the plug-in hybrid model, which comes with a 1.6L engine that’s able to deliver 261 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, and generally, I found that it performs well. It’s not the fastest or most responsive car out there, but it’s certainly not underpowered either, and the electric motor helps ensure that it’s more efficient than much of the competition. The plug-in hybrid models also come with all-wheel drive.

The response time is perhaps the worst thing about driving the Sorento, as it often took a little too long to accelerate. But you’ll definitely get used to that feel and forget about it. The car was quick to brake too, which helps.

Of course the biggest reason to go for the plug-in hybrid over other models is the fuel-efficiency. Most of the time, you’ll use the car in “Eco” mode, which relies on the electric motor at lower speeds, and kicks in the engine as needed for faster acceleration. Kia claims the car can run for 32 miles on electric power alone, however you probably won’t use the electric motor alone much.

2022 Kia Sorento driver assist

The 2022 Kia Sorento also comes with some great driver-assist features that can come in handy, depending on which options you go for. You’ll get all the basics, like blind-sport monitoring and a backup camera, but there are options for things like a 360-degree camera view as well. And, one of my favorite Kia features is here too — the side mirror camera that switches on when you turn on the indicator. This can really help.

There are other safety-focused features. For example, the car comes standard with forward-collision, and a lane-keeping assist. It’s a good selection of features, however you’ll obviously need to upgrade for some of them.

Conclusions

BGR Gold Award 2022

The Kia Sorento is a great mid-size SUV that’s perfect for those who might occasionally need a third row of seats. As mentioned, if you need a more permanent third-row setup, it’s perhaps a good idea to go for something like the Kia Telluride, which is a little larger. But if you’re fine with the size and like a slightly more efficient take on the SUV, then the Kia Sorento plug-in hybrid is worth considering.

The competition

Of course, the car faces stiff competition. Chief among the competition is perhaps Kia’s own Telluride, which has been making serious waves since its release. If you want something slightly bigger, it’s the way to go.

Should I buy the 2022 Kia Sorento?

Yes. If you want an eco-conscious mid-size SUV, it’s a great option.

Amazon’s tremendous online marketplace and its inconceivable nationwide distribution network are obviously both impressive. But it’s possible that neither one is Amazon’s crowning achievement at this point. Instead, it might actually be Alexa, which has become absolutely essential to countless millions of people out there. And today, there’s an Echo Auto deal that Alexa fans need to see.

Everyone loves having Alexa in their homes. That’s because there are endless “skills” that Amazon’s virtual personal assistant can take care of for you. The problem for so many people, however, is what happens when they leave the house.

People lose access to all their Echo speakers since Amazon doesn’t make any portable Echo speakers anymore. That ends today, however, thanks to an Amazon Echo Auto offer you’d have to be crazy to pass up.

Amazon’s Memorial Day 2022 sale slashes the Echo Auto down to the lowest price ever!

Amazon’s best Echo Auto deal of 2022

It should go without saying that Amazon is well aware of Alexa’s old limitations. That’s exactly why the company created products like Echo Buds that give you access to Alexa on the go. Then there’s the Echo Auto, which gives you hands-free access to Alexa in your car while you drive.

And right now, Echo Auto is on sale with a massive discount for Memorial Day 2022!

Alexa is no longer merely a luxury for so many people out there. Instead, Amazon’s virtual personal assistant is a necessity these days. I can’t even remember what life was like before I had Alexa doing my bidding. Alexa turns the lights on and off for me.

It shows me who’s at my front door thanks to a Ring Video Doorbell and an Echo Show. Plus, it makes my coffee in the morning and arms my alarm system at night.

I’m so used to having the ability to speak commands to Alexa that I have definitely caught myself doing it once or twice when I wasn’t even near an Echo speaker. Oops!

Take Alexa with you on the go

Echo Auto deal on Amazon

I really only have one problem with all this reliance on Alexa. It’s the fact that Alexa isn’t readily available once I leave my house. Or at least, that used to be the case.

Thanks to one of Amazon’s best Alexa smart devices, I don’t have to worry anymore. It’s called the Echo Auto, and it’s basically an Echo Dot for your car. It gives you hands-free access to all the Alexa skills you love. Plus, it plays Alexa’s voice or streaming music through my car’s speakers.

You can stream music or podcasts, get voice-guided navigation, and so much more. One time, I used Alexa on the Echo Auto to close my garage door at home when I realized I had forgotten. Without the Echo Auto and MyQ smart garage door opener, I would’ve had to turn around and drive all the way home.

This is a must-have for anyone who uses Alexa. And right now, it’s on sale right now for just $19.99 instead of $50, which is a truly astounding value. It’s a gigantic 60% discount and it’s the lowest price we’ve seen so far in 2022.

Don’t miss out on this deal!
