Apple launched the first iPhone 15 years ago this week, kicking off a new chapter in the mobile revolution and cementing the preeminence of a piece of consumer hardware that would dominate Apple’s fortunes for the next decade and beyond. Notwithstanding how long some of you have been iPhone users, though, the handsets are so feature-rich now thanks to Apple’s iterative iOS releases that — unless you follow all this for a living — there must just be tons of things your iPhone can do that you don’t even realize.

What’s more, Apple doesn’t always make a big deal about heralding every single iPhone feature tucked away in new iOS releases. Some of them you either find by accident or you manage to hear about from someone or someplace else.

Scan text in photos, and hide your email

In this post, we’ll take a look at five really useful iPhone features that you might not have discovered yet — but all of which, nevertheless, are super useful. Starting with the ability to scan text in photos.

Scan photo text with your iPhone

If you’re running iOS 15, open up your camera roll. Do you see text in any of the photos you’ve taken that are now stored on your iPhone? Maybe there’s an image of a street sign, of a restaurant exterior, or any paper with words on it. You might not be aware that you can long-press on the text in that image and select it, in order to copy and paste it somewhere else.

Hide your email

Sometimes, it seems like almost every single website you visit asks for your email address at some point. Certainly, they do so if you want to stay up-to-date on news from the site. To insert a layer of privacy between you and that site, however, Apple has a feature available via iCloud+ that lets you “hide” your email from the site. In the prompt where you’d otherwise type your email, Apple should recognize and give you the option of letting the iPhone maker generate a random email address instead.

Apple then forwards that company’s emails to that randomly generated address, and then to the actual email address that Apple has on file for you.

More iPhone features

Below, we’ve also got a way for you to quickly undo something in a text field, silence spammers, and improve your FaceTime sessions. We’ll quickly run through each, starting with a quick “undo” trick.

Three fingers to undo: Shaking your iPhone to undo something is pretty well-known at this point. But did you know you can also simply tap three fingers in a text field to quickly bring up an “undo” option?

iPhone 12Image source: Apple

Turing on Portrait Mode during FaceTime calls: If you’re worried about how your surroundings look ahead of your next FaceTime call, fear not. You can actually use your iPhone to artfully blur the background, similar to what Portrait mode does for photos. If you want to use this feature, tap on the tile with your image during a FaceTime call. Then, you’ll see an option of four icons to press. Choose the one in the upper-left corner.

Silence any spam callers: Don’t want to keep getting bothered or interrupted by spam callers? All you need to do is open the Settings app, select “Phone,” and then “Silence Unknown Callers.”

The biggest band in the world right now is Korean. Some of the biggest TV shows in the world, like Netflix’s Squid Game, are likewise Korean — and, in the opening moments of Netflix’s newly released Money Heist: Korea, these tidal waves of Korean pop culture intersect in such a way as to immediately distinguish this reimagining of Money Heist from its Spanish-language predecessor and to ground it in the here and now.

The show opens by introducing us to an enthusiastic, headphone-wearing member of ARMY, the name of the fandom associated with K-pop group BTS. This particular fan is a North Korean university student shown dancing to DNA, the lead single from BTS’ 2017 release Love Yourself: Her. She goes on to confess how much she loves K-pop and K-dramas (which, incidentally, Netflix has been as responsible as any service for popularizing around the globe).

What sets this member of BTS’ ARMY apart from other fans around the world, however, is that she has to enjoy the group’s music in secret. Also, this member of the BTS ARMY from Pyongyang’s Kim Il-Sung University goes on to join an actual army (the DPRK’s). And, eventually, she falls in with a group of thieves planning the mother of all heists.

Is Money Heist: Korea a remake?

We quickly come to learn that she’s one of the central figures in Money Heist: Korea. A show, by the way, that will feel immediately familiar to anyone who watched the original from a Spanish production team that eventually catapulted itself to the vanguard of Netflix’s global release slate.

Here, again, a motley crew of have-nots and rejects assembles under the auspices of a brilliant Professor. During the actual heist itself, the crew wears red track suits instantly recognizable to fans of the original show. They also wear white face masks that are similar to but not copies of the Salvador Dali masks worn in the Spanish original.

However, things veer off in an all-new narrative direction pretty much right away.

Netflix dusts off one of its greatest hits

For one thing, events take place in an imaginary future wherein North and South Korea have agreed on reunification. A so-called “joint economic area” has been established on the border between both countries, which looks like a capitalist paradise. It’s sort of a “practice city,” meant to show everyone what’s possible in the reunified country. And it’s here where a mint operates that will print a new currency for the nation.

Beneath the surface, though, the reality isn’t quite so rosy.

money heist korea

The rich, as we’re told more than once in Money Heist: Korea, are the ones who got richer. The show grapples with issues of class, immigration, and social stratification that very much resemble their real-world counterparts. And it’s against that backdrop that The Professor and his crew set out to execute a daring crime.

They’re not stealing money from anyone, though. At least, not as such. If you’ve seen the original, you already know where this is going. Their plan is to break into the mint and simply print a staggering amount of money, instead.

That’s easier said than done, though. But enough Netflix subscribers have already been intrigued enough to see what the thieves here are capable of that, even though the show has only been available on the streamer for just four days, it’s already a Top 10 Netflix release in the US. Money Heist: Korea will also almost certainly be a top release this week when Netflix releases its new data on the latest Top 10 titles from around the world.

One of the biggest Netflix releases of all time is back — sort of.

The Spanish-language thriller Money Heist, released back in 2017, was a twisty, action-packed drama about a stylishly-clad band of thieves — working under the auspices of a brilliant character known as The Professor — who (initially) break into the Royal Mint of Spain. There was a Robin Hood, us-against-the-system vibe to the show, a populist streak that helped turn it into a staggeringly huge Netflix original series.

In fact, three of the series’ five seasons occupy individual slots on the streamer’s Top 10 ranking of the biggest non-English TV shows of all time, having garnered hundreds of millions of hours viewed worldwide between them.

So, having said that, can you blame the streaming giant for wanting to resurrect the now-ended series and give it a try in Korea, reworking the show into an all-new Netflix release for another massive global audience?

Money Heist: Korea

Money Heist: Korea is one of five new high-profile Netflix releases everyone will be talking about this week. It’s probably less correct, by the way, to regard the show as a remake than a “reimagining,” however. A remake, for example, would imply that the main difference here is simply the language, with pretty much everything else largely the same.

Instead, the crux of the story here is completely different. This time, the series imagines a unified Korean peninsula in an imaginary future. Naturally, there would have to be a unified currency for such a new and expanded Korea, right? Voila: The need to print new money, which becomes a juicy target for our thieves.

Speaking of the thieves, they do once again don bright red jumpsuits and white face masks. There’s also still a brilliant “Professor” behind it all. And the thieves take the names of cities as aliases, just like they did in the original Money Heist.

“As a border looks set to vanish,” Netflix explains about this new series release, “the people of a long-divided peninsula seem about to reunite — but there are unsettling consequences.”

Under the new economic union, the streamer continues, only the rich have gotten richer. “Into this ruthless new world of inequality steps a crew of thieves from North and South Korea, led by the Professor, who set out to pull off a history-making heist.”

In this new retelling, Netflix continues, a “Joint Security Area” is situated between the two halves of the peninsula. And it contains a mint that becomes the focus of the story. “Amid reunification, the mint is printing a new unified currency as the groundwork to build a stable joint economy.”

Other new Netflix releases

In terms of other new Netflix releases now available to stream, meanwhile, besides the new Money Heist? There’s a new slapstick action-comedy starring Kevin Hart and Woody Harrelson to check out. Plus the long-awaited Season 3 of The Umbrella Academy, and a new reality series about super-spoiled, overly sensitive young people. Additionally, you can read more about each release, with details from Netflix, below.

The Man From Toronto: “A case of mistaken identity forces a bumbling entrepreneur to team up with a notorious assassin known as The Man from Toronto in hopes of staying alive.”

Umbrella Academy — Season 3: “Reunited by their father’s death, estranged siblings with extraordinary powers uncover shocking family secrets — and a looming threat to humanity.”

Snowflake Mountain: “Hopelessly entitled or simply in need of tough love? Ten spoiled young adults experience nature without a parental safety net in this reality series.”

A New Netflix movie to check out

We’ve also got one more title to mention, in our look at the latest and buzziest Netflix releases.

The #5 movie on Netflix in the US at the time of this writing, which hit the streamer just this week, is the sweet Love & Gelato — a Netflix release from writer-director Brandon Camp. It was adapted from the novel of the same name by Jenna Evans Welch. And it’s easy to see why this one is so popular among many Netflix subscribers at the moment. It’s got young love, the picturesque setting of Italy — what more could you want?

As for the story, Lina is a young American girl who’s traveled to Rome to honor her mother’s memory. “Catapulted into an unknown country,” Netflix explains, “too messy and full of chaos for her serious, methodical, and even a little nerdy nature, she will find herself forced to have to deal with all her obsessions, anxieties, and fears but also to have to deal with the past of her mother who hides some surprises and some secrets.

“Immersed in magical landscapes and in unfamiliar and exciting foods, fascinated by the unique style of Italian fashion, overwhelmed by romantic unexpected events, and overwhelmed by a new and anomalous family, Lina will learn to look to the world and to herself with a finally different eye.”

For the umpteenth time in the life of the social networking giant, Facebook is preparing to implement a top-to-bottom overhaul of its signature blue app in the face of a serious competitive threat. After making Snapchat-style Stories and TikTok-inspired Reels the centerpiece of the Instagram experience, Meta-owned Facebook is now preparing to make the TikTok-ification of the Facebook app even more pronounced.

TikTok is currently the most visited website in the world, with the popular video service having established its pop-culture dominance by attracting influencers, celebrities, brands, and of course, everyday individuals across the world. For the time being, though, Facebook parent Meta remains the biggest, and most consequential, social media platform and company globally.

It’s also for that reason, by the way, that Facebook and Instagram accounts remain juicy targets for hackers. That’s no surprise, given the staggering number of users who still rely on the services to consume content. And to stay connected with friends and loved ones.

Facebook account hacked?

One of the common knocks against Facebook — that it knows and tracks so much about you and your activity — can actually work in your favor if you’re trying to determine whether someone has unauthorized access to your account.

Facebook LogoImage source: Christian de Looper for BGR

There are some pretty easy steps you can follow to make sure your Facebook account has not fallen victim to a snoop or malicious hacker.

First, sign in to your account. If you’re on the web, next click your profile image in the top right corner. And then, from the drop-down menu, select Settings & Privacy > and then Settings.

After that, click on Security and Login. Then look over to the right. You should see a listing of devices under the heading Where you’re logged in.

Two should be showing immediately. But if you click on “See More” you can expand that list. See any that are questionable or that you’re sure weren’t you? Simply choose “log out” from the three-dot icon over on the right.

While we’re at it, if you haven’t turned on Two-Factor Authentication for your Facebook account, you definitely need to do that right now. Simply scroll down on the same page that had the “Where you’re logged in” menu. Look for the Two-Factor Authentication option. Turn it on, and then from that point onward Facebook will ask for a login code if there’s an attempt to log in to your account from an unrecognized device or browser.

The beginning of the end for Zuckerberg’s empire

Of course, steps like those are only useful to anyone out there who still uses and enjoys Facebook. A service that’s now facing perhaps its toughest competitive threat to date, in the form of an app that tens of millions of people around the world now love more — such that Facebook is prepping an overhaul to make itself more in line with that rival app.

In a leaked memo obtained by The Verge, company executives laid out a plan to prioritize Facebook posts that are likely to spur engagement. At the expense, of course, of posts from individuals that people actually follow. In effect, Facebook will try and mimic TikTok’s For You Page. That’s the TikTok discovery engine that expertly doles out videos while keeping consumers engaged for hours on end.

Instagram is already doing this in a big way. Facebook, meanwhile, got as big as it did partly because of the algorithm that surfaced the content you’re likely to most engage with … from within the universe of people and pages you already follow on Facebook.

TikTok running on a smartphone.

Therein lies a key distinction that TikTok capitalized on. Because TikTok is freakishly good at showing you content that the app thinks you will love … from potentially any account on the service. Whether you follow that account or not.

Bottom line: The business strategy behind Facebook’s approach makes sense on a surface level. However, it has the potential to destroy the very thing that made Facebook popular in the first place. That would be the actual connections between friends, family, and acquaintances.

Most Netflix original shows tend to get the ax from the streamer around Seasons 3 or, in rare cases, a fourth season of the series. But not when it comes to the glamorous real estate ladies of Selling Sunset, the guilty pleasure Netflix show that just got picked up by the streamer for two more seasons (#s 6 and 7).

Name almost any Netflix show you can think of, and chances are its run has ended at least two and probably three seasons behind where Selling Sunset will be once Season 7 rolls around. And not only that — this dishy, buzz-worthy show that celebrates the wealth porn of the 1 percenters has already inspired two spinoffs (Selling Tampa, and Selling the O.C.).

Will there be a season 6 of Selling Sunset?

Netflix announced on Thursday that its Emmy-nominated docusoap will have at least two more seasons. And not only that — production is set to get underway later this summer.

The show takes place amid the high-end world of LA real estate, and it follows the successful female realtors who work together at The Oppenheim Group, an agency where the competition is cutthroat and the gorgeous surroundings of the Hollywood Hills and Sunset Strip belie the hard work required to “make it.”

Moreover, Netflix announced the Selling Sunset news in tandem with the announcement of a slew of other new show details. They include premiere dates for several real estate-themed series coming to the streamer, like:

“Luxe real estate. Major drama.”

For those who haven’t checked it out yet, Netflix promises that Selling Sunset viewers will get episode after episode of “luxe real estate” and “major drama.”

The show follows a group of the city’s most successful female realtors who all work under the same roof, who “work hard and play harder, as they compete with the cutthroat LA market and each other. These ladies will do what it takes to make it to the top of their game, all while trying to keep their personal lives intact.”

Season 5 of Selling Sunset currently has a percent 100 percent critics score on Rotten Tomatoes. All 11 episodes of the latest season are streaming now on Netflix. And that total includes the season’s reunion episode, for which host Tan France (from Netflix’s Queer Eye) leads a discussion with the cast about the show and their lives today.

There’s something that feels distinctly Canadian about the Toronto Sun covering the new Netflix movie from Kevin Hart and Woody Harrelson and deciding to focus on Hart’s repeated mispronunciation of Canada’s most populous city. “Even though Kevin Hart botches the pronunciation of Toronto in his upcoming action-comedy The Man From Toronto,” the newspaper begins, “he wants to assure everyone who took issue with his hard ‘T’ ‘Toe-RON-toe’ that he meant no disrespect.”

If you want to be like that, though, the real head-scratcher is how Woody Harrelson — with as thick a Southern drawl as they come — was tapped to play an assassin who supposedly grew up in Toronto. Then again, this is a Kevin Hart-led comedy we’re talking about here. As such, there are some rules about appreciating this kind of thing. One of which is that you’re not supposed to take it too seriously. “Too,” as in, “at all.”

What is The Man from Toronto about?

Netflix, for its part, gives the 110-minute movie the barest of synopses. “A case of mistaken identity arises after a screw-up sales consultant and the world’s deadliest assassin — known only as The Man from Toronto — run into each other at a holiday rental.”

The film’s director is Patrick Hughes, whose credits also include The Hitman’s Bodyguard and The Expendables 3. Joining Hart and Harrelson in the cast here are other familiar faces, such as The Flight Attendant’s Kaley Cuoco.

Reaction on Twitter to the movie so far, meanwhile, ranges from the optimistic to the “Man, it’s going to be hard to get into The Man From Toronto with all those yanks mispronouncing the city’s name” variety.

Hart vs Harrelson

“Airbnbs, you never know what you’re gonna get,” Hart’s character deadpans at one point in the film. The same can definitely be said of Netflix’s hit-or-miss original movies, but that’s neither here nor there.

Hart is chatting away nervously at the vacation rental when he’s led downstairs by a menacing-looking goon. Downstairs, Hart promptly freaks out at the sight of a beat-up man hanging suspended from the ceiling. “Oooh, s**t, no!” Hart, who’s supposed to be a legendary assassin, exclaims in terror.

the man from toronto netflixImage source: Sabrina Lantos/Netflix

Long story short, Hart sets off a case of mistaken identity when he shows up at the rental. The assumption is that he’s the deadly Man from Toronto. Law enforcement eventually arrives, thinking that they’ve bagged the legend. Eventually, they decide to use Hart’s bumbling cluelessness to their advantage. It’s in an effort, of course, to draw out the real Man from Toronto (don’t think about it too hard).

From there, Hart and Harrelson embark on the requisite hijinks together. The movie is less a paragon of cinematic artistry, as you might imagine, than sight gags of the “so stupid they’re funny” sort. If you’re in the right mood, watching Hart cavalierly wave a knife around in an attempt to look like a tough guy — but then accidentally slice a man’s face in the process — can send you into a fit of convulsive laughter.

On Friday, Amazon’s Prime Video service is giving fans of its anti-hero drama The Boys something they’ve been waiting for three years to see. That’s right, the notorious “Herogasm” is finally here — and, suffice it to say, the team behind the hit Prime Video series seems to have pulled out all the stops to do justice to this episode’s truly insane bacchanalia.

Viewers have been dying to know how the show would tackle this event that was depicted in a six-issue spinoff of the comics that the overall series is based on. In that spinoff, the Boys sneak into the week-long “Herogasm,” an orgy held each year exclusively for Supes.

In case you’re wondering how wild this episode will be? The Boys’ showrunner has described it as so graphic, it’s practically porn.

Herogasm episode coming Friday

Prime Video, for its part, has teased a bit about what’s coming tomorrow. Friday’s episode, among other things, includes everything from “a massive supe orgy, airborne penetration, dildo-based maiming, extra strength lube, icicle phalluses” and more. As a result, the service promises this extremely inappropriate episode is not “suitable for any audience.”

In a tweet from the show’s official Twitter account, which included a #Herogasm hashtag, fans also got their first taste of “the only footage legal would approve to show ya ahead of time.”

Check out the clip below to see “The Deep” declare, with a degree of shock: “This is herogasm.”

It doesn’t take a prognosticator with any degree of prophetic insight here to surmise that viewership for Friday’s episode of The Boys is going to be through the roof. And, perhaps, the same goes for the inevitable complaints to the FCC that will no doubt follow. No less than The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke, in fact, has raved that he was told the following by an executive at Sony, about the Herogasm episode:

“Not only is this my favorite of The Boys. This is my favorite episode of television.”

The Boys season 4 news

Season 3 of the show currently has a near-perfect critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes (98 percent). That’s thanks to praise from critics like one CNN reviewer, who described it thus. “The Boys remains creatively fearless and, for those with the stomach for it, a great deal of fun. As creative combinations go, like Homelander, that one-two punch looks pretty near unstoppable.”

Prime Video dropped the first three episodes of season 3 on Friday, June 3. New episodes have since premiered every Friday. And they’re leading up to the season finale on July 8. According to Prime Video, over the first three days of its third season, the worldwide audience for The Boys has grown by 17 percent from season 2. Since season 1, there’s been a staggering 234% increase.

The Boys continues to push boundaries in storytelling while also being relentlessly entertaining and threading the needle on social satire that feels all too real,” Vernon Sanders, head of global television at Amazon Studios, said in a news release. There’s “pushing boundaries,” though, and then this week’s Herogasm episode. It’s a whole different something else entirely.

President Joe Biden waving to hecklers shouting Let's go Brandon!

Spend enough time scrolling through Twitter, and you’ll eventually come across it. A simple, three-word exhortation — Let’s go, Brandon! — that started spreading like wildfire across social media in October of 2021.

This phrase quickly became a combination anti-Joe Biden “Let’s go, Brandon” meme as well as a conservative rallying cry of sorts. It’s also driven Biden supporters completely crazy. You’ll generally find the phrase shared in posts written by critics of President Biden, but it’s also gone on to become a hashtag, a meme, it’s included in account names and handles — and it even adorns merchandise. A Let’s go, Brandon song also went viral on TikTok.

We’ll break down the backstory below. It’s best, however, to think about this catchphrase within the context of some larger political forces at work. Biden’s approval rating, for example, just hit one of the lowest levels of his presidency. Inflation is soaring, high gas prices are frustrating cash-strapped consumers, and some Democrats have started whispering about whether Biden ought to be the candidate the party runs in 2024.

Here’s a segment from none other than CNN, in fact, decrying a so-called “geriatric oligarchy” in control of the US government.

Original NASCAR video clip – and who is Brandon?

For anyone interested in how the Let’s Go Brandon online movement got started, meanwhile, video from the NASCAR race behind this whole thing is embedded below.

This whole thing got started in October, at the Talladega Superspeedway. Brandon Brown had just won a NASCAR race. And sportscaster Kelli Stavast at one point commented during an interview with Brown afterward how the crowd seemed to be chanting in his honor: ‘Let’s go, Brandon!”

Unfortunately, that’s not actually what they were chanting. The crowd was very clearly addressing President Biden, not Brandon. Only, with an f-bomb in front of his name instead of “Let’s go!”

Whether the reporter in that clip made a mistake when listening to the crowd’s chants or not is kind of irrelevant at this point. Conservatives already feel like the mainstream media is stacked against them. And here, there’s a reporter telling people something that was contradicted by what they could clearly hear with their own ears.

The phrase was all over social media again a few months ago, with the news that Southwest Airlines was canceling tons of flights (leading to suspicion that Biden’s vaccine mandate was somehow to blame). Even congressmen as well as the NRA, certainly no fans of the president, have gotten in on the act and promoted the phrase on social media. Consequently, the phrase then spilled over into pop culture.

Along those lines, there’ve been at least two songs with “Let’s Go, Brandon” in the title that went on to top the iTunes charts.

Biden approval rating

One of the reasons this catchphrase found such a receptive audience can be attributed to, for lack of a better description, the Biden economy.

One of the crises that was unfolding at the time, when the phrase first caught fire, was a supply chain crisis. Inflation, meanwhile, is also at a record high. The US has also reeled from shortages of important consumer products, like baby formula. The Biden administration, meanwhile, has tried to downplay much of it — which, to conservatives, has reeked of the same “Who are you going to believe? Me, or your lying eyes?” defense that characterized the original “Let’s go, Brandon!” TV moment.

Biden, meanwhile, also closed out his first year in office by finding himself almost as unpopular as President Trump. Along these lines, The Economist ran a piece with the headline: “No one loves Joe Biden.”

“Americans elected the president to get rid of his predecessor,” the piece continued. “They’re not sure what else he can do.”

Bryson Gray and Loza Alexander both wrote a Let’s Go Brandon song

The phrase has continued to show up in all kinds of surprising places. A Southwest Airlines pilot himself made news for declaring “Let’s Go, Brandon” from the cockpit, over the intercom, during an announcement to passengers.

On the one hand, it’s true that this phrase is used as a euphemistic replacement for more vulgar invective that would be otherwise directed at the president. Instead of dropping the f-bomb at the president as the NASCAR crowd did, you can utter this phrase instead. People will know what you really mean.

It’s a code phrase, it’s a meme, it’s an example to conservatives of media bias — basically, it’s a neat and tidy summation of so many different crosscurrents in the news right now. But because it’s also exploding all over social media and the public lexicon at the moment, there have also even been charting-topping hip-hop songs with, you guessed it, Let’s go Brandon in the title.

One of the songs is by rapper Loza Alexander, which first went viral on TikTok. Another is from rapper Bryson Gray, whose song shot to #1 on iTunes.

Some of the most popular and successful Netflix movies aren’t always the best or the most critically acclaimed. Case in point: Netflix’s steamy 365 Days movie franchise, which is basically soft porn masquerading as legitimate cinema. The two existing titles in the franchise are 2020’s 365 Days and this year’s 365 Days: This Day, both of which viewers sent rocketing up the Netflix charts post-release. And both of which still have 0 percent critics scores on Rotten Tomatoes.

Nevertheless, enough Netflix subscribers binged all the adult action therein that, no surprise, another installment is on the way. Moreover, movie number three — the unimaginatively titled The Next 365 Days — already has a release date, too.

We’ll get into all the details below. Along with a look at some of the other big Netflix movies that are coming to the streamer soon.

The Next 365 Days

Regarding films #2 and #3 in the 365 Days franchise, these Netflix movies were actually filmed back-to-back (in Italy and Poland).

The Netflix landing page for the third movie currently shows a release date of August 19.

Meanwhile, as a reminder of where things stood for movie #2, 365 Days: This Day:

From Netflix’s official synopsis: “Laura and Massimo are back and hotter than ever. But the reunited couple’s new beginning is complicated by Massimo’s family ties and a mysterious man who enters Laura’s life to win her heart and trust, at any cost.” As far as additional highlights of movie #2, (*spoilers*, of course) Massimo’s twin brother Adriano kidnaps Laura. Massimo tries to save her, but Laura ends up getting shot by Anna. Massimo shoots his brother, and the movie ends with Laura in Massimo’s arms.

Long story short: Between the music playing over every other scene, compounded with all the naughty bits, there wasn’t much “movie” in #2 to speak of (or #1, for that matter). “365 Days: This Day is barely a movie,” a RogerEbert.com review opines. “It’s the emotionally bankrupt id of late capitalism, a braindead miasma of choreographed sex.”

Variety’s takedown is more succinct: “It’s piping hot trash.”

More Netflix movies coming soon

In terms of the more immediate Netflix movie release slate, meanwhile, you can check out our coverage here that rounds up all the films coming to the streamer through the rest of this month.

Among the titles hitting Netflix over the next 30 days or so, some of the most high-profile releases include Persuasion, another Jane Austin adaptation (this one, set for July 15, stars Dakota Johnson).

The Gray Man

Also coming in July is a spy thriller with the biggest budget ever for a Netflix original movie (more than $200 million).

The Gray Man, based on writer Mark Greaney’s The Gray Man spy novels, also has some big connections to Marvel. The directors are none other than Joe and Anthony Russo of Avengers fame. Moreover, the cast also includes at least one Marvel star — Chris Evans, who plays a psychotic former colleague of the movie’s superspy hero, the titular “Gray Man” (aka Court Gentry).

Netflix’s summary: “When a shadowy CIA agent uncovers damning agency secrets, he’s hunted across the globe by a sociopathic rogue operative who’s put a bounty on his head.”

The Gray Man will debut on Netflix on July 22. The cast also includes Ana de Armas, Ryan Gosling, and Bridgerton’s Rege-Jean Page. Our complete look at Netflix’s July release lineup can be found here.

Once iOS 16 finally arrives this fall and brings the next generation of Apple’s mobile operating software to iPhones, everyone’s going to be talking about the big highlights like customizable lock screens and long-awaited enhancements to the Apple Messages app. Among the laundry list of other new tools and features that’ll be part of iOS 16, though, there’s also a photo-editing ability coming that will no doubt be pretty useful to many people, especially if you take lots of photos with your iPhone.

Apple showed this new feature off at WWDC earlier month. It basically involves the user being able to cleanly lift the subject out of any photo he or she takes. The user can then drop that image onto another background, to create an entirely different image more to their liking.

New iOS 16 photo-editing feature

Visual Look Up, according to Apple’s own description, takes photos even further by introducing a new feature that allows users to do the following. You’ll now be able to “tap and hold on the subject of an image to lift it from the background and place it in apps like Messages,” Apple says. “Visual Look Up also expands to recognize birds, insects, and statues.”

Here’s an example of what the feature looks like in action:

iPhone owners also use this feature to drop images onto a different background. Creating new images, in other words, rather than simply sharing an image subject inside an app like Messages. Twitter users have described the feature as everything from “kinda amazing” to “the most fun thing to come out of WWDC 2022.”

More changes coming to your iPhone

Other iOS 16 features to look forward to, meanwhile, include a new notification design. Plus improved dictation, Apple Pay Later, and Live Activities — the latter being a feature whereby users can keep tabs on sports scores from the lock screen in real-time. Live Activities also makes it possible to track the progress of an Uber or food delivery from the lock screen.

iOS 16 will also spare users from the tyranny of forced CAPTCHA navigation around the Internet in many cases. Apple has reportedly worked with both Cloudflare and Fastly to develop Automatic Verification. Many sites that use these services to defend against spammers and bots should let you bypass the CAPTCHA process going forward.

And then, of course, there are the new Messages features including the long-desired ability to unsend messages. Thanks to iOS 16, users will now also be able to edit sent messages. And to re-mark messages that you’ve already seen as unread.

For more details about the Messages enhancements in iOS 16, check out our earlier coverage. Meanwhile, our guide here for iOS 16 runs through some of the most exciting features of the new OS that will make your iPhone arguably feel brand-new.
