Best early 4th of July deals to shop right now

Amazon typically has a huge sale before the 4th of July. But with Prime Day right afterward, it won’t be as big as the signature sales event. There will be deals on Amazon devices, such as Echos or Ring Doorbells potentially. Amazon Fire TV Sticks or Fire TVs will also likely be discounted. There will be a big sale on TVs, with plenty under $500 and even some under $200. You may even see discounts on headphones, smart watches, kitchen appliances, and more.

Best Buy is known for its three-day sales events and since the 4th of July will run over a weekend, you’ll likely see huge offerings. This year’s 4th of July sale is already showing its appliances sale details. You’ll get a free $100 e-gift card with a qualifying appliance package totaling $1,499 or more. Moving forward, you’ll probably see TVs, computers and all kinds of electronics up for grabs.

Right now, Best Buy is offering huge deals on items like an LG Electric Dryer, a Samsung 4-door Refrigerator, or a Dell laptop just to name a few. You’re saving up to $1,200 if you hurry up and snag these now. But there will be more deals as July approaches. When is the 4th of July this year?

Well, obviously it’s on the fourth day of July. But this year, it’s on a Monday. July 1st falls on a Friday, so you’re likely to see sales events begin Friday and last through Monday.

When do 4th of July deals and sales start?

In previous years, these sales and deals start about a week before 4th of July. But retailers are always looking to give consumers deals so, there are even some deals that are available now and we have highlighted them here. Amazon’s Prime Day is also around the corner, this year on July 12th and 13th, so there’s going to be tons of great deals available next month.

Since July 4th is on a Monday, we are anticipating that a bulk of the July 4th weekend deals should start around Friday, July 1st and continue through the week of July 4th. But some companies have already started their July 4th sales events.

Spending a day on a golf course is a day well spent. Even if you have a terrible round, you can take solace in the fact that you were outside on, hopefully, a beautiful day. If you’re an avid golfer, you know how far each one of your clubs is (most likely) going to go. Barring fierce weather conditions, you should be able to hit your clubs a certain distance in order to make your way through a round. But we’re all trying to find advantages where we can on the course. The Bushnell Wingman is here to help.

If there is anything that can help me on a golf course, I’d like to know about it. Oftentimes I’m stressed about my bad shots and want to just enjoy the day and listen to some music. That’s the beauty of the Bushnell Wingman. It is a GPS speaker, so it can tell you how far away you are from the green while also playing your favorite music. There’s something for every kind of golfer in the experience of using it. I was able to test it out during a few rounds and here is what I thought.

Setting the Bushnell Wingman up

It takes almost no time to set up the Bushnell Wingman once you have it. Charge it up using the provided USB charger cable with a USB block of your own. In order for it to work as a GPS device, you must download the Bushnell Golf app, which is available in both the Google Play and Apple app stores. Just selecting the Wingman speaker from the device list will sync it up with Bluetooth. You should sync up the Wingman Remote as well to get the most out of it. Following the instructions on the app screen will get you ready to play a round of golf. 

From then on, any time you turn on the speaker, as long as the previously used phone has its Bluetooth on, it will automatically connect. In order for others to connect to it as a speaker, you just need to disconnect and they can then search for Wingman on their device list. This allows you to use the speaker on or off the golf course as a portable Bluetooth speaker.

The Bushnell golf app uses your location to find the golf course that you’re near. It has a wide library of golf courses, packing the knowledge of over 36,000 of them. It’ll ask you what tees you’re playing from and the image that you’ll see each hole is similar to what is pictured above. It will give you distances and a full-color aerial view of the hole. You’ll see distances to the front, center, and back of the green.

After you’ve finished a hole, you can keep score in the app. You can mark down your score and how many putts you had. It also allows you to mark down where your drive went while tallying greens in regulation. The main metric the app is missing is sand shots, but it provides you with plenty of information about your round.

Wingman remote

The Wingman Remote is a small, circular remote that fits and snaps onto the top of the speaker. This is the best place to put it when your Bushnell Wingman is attached to your golf cart. The speaker features a strong magnet with BITE technology, similar to other Bushnell rangefinders, that keeps it in place while you’re playing your round. While you’re playing a hole, you need to go up to your ball and tap the button on the remote. From there, the speaker tells you what hole you’re on, what par is for the hole, and how far you are from the green.

It also provides you with the distance to a water hazard, if there is one on the hole. You can take the remote off when you aren’t using it for golf, so you don’t lose it. The magnet for the remote is strong, so it won’t slide out easily.

Once you’ve connected via Bluetooth, you can play music through the speaker. You don’t need to have the Bushnell Golf app in order to use it. So hooking up your favorite music app lets you play through it. This is a premium audio speaker that allows you to control the volume from your phone or the speaker itself. The + button increases the volume and the – button decreases it. The play button lets you pause and play the music. If you hold down the + button it will skip the song and go to the next one. If you hold down the – button, it will restart the song you’re listening to. Be careful with the amount of pressure you apply, as you may accidentally skip the song if you’re just trying to increase the volume.

Once you get to about 80% of its maximum volume, the distortion of audio kicks in a bit. But it’s not anything outrageous, so most listeners won’t even notice. There aren’t any ways to customize your sound other than raising and lowering the volume. But the battery lasts for 10 hours, which is more or less perfect for two full rounds of golf. I used it for 27 holes and never had to recharge it. 

If you are golfing and listening to music simultaneously, the volume of your music will automatically lower as it reads you the distances you want. Then, after the distances are read, the volume and music return to the level they were previously. This is a huge timesaver and doesn’t make you have to look at your phone more than you want to during a hole.

Other intangibles

Not only can you listen to music, but you can also charge a device while you’re playing. If your phone is running low on battery, there is a charge-out port that lets you charge it from the speaker. It doesn’t come with a carrying case. But there is one that you can purchase from Bushnell and plenty of other versions that are made for the cord, remote, and speaker. The remote doesn’t work on its own if it’s away from the speaker to give you the distances. Turning the speaker on plays a loud sound and turning it off plays another sound, letting you know the power is on or off.

Conclusions

This speaker is a great addition to any golfer’s bag. If you’re someone who loves to listen to music while playing, this eliminates your needing a speaker and a rangefinder. It also saves you time in getting distances for you rather than you needing to shoot a distance with a rangefinder. The audio is of high enough quality for almost any person to enjoy. It can fit in your golf bag in one of the side pockets for storage.

The competition

There really isn’t any. It is the first of its kind in terms of a portable speaker and a GPS device. You can choose a rangefinder and a portable speaker bundle from Blue Tees Golf, but it is more expensive than the Bushnell Wingman.

Should I buy the Bushnell Wingman?

Yes. It’s one of the most innovative golf accessories in years.

Netflix has had an interesting journey. From being universally loved by its users in the earlier days of the streaming services boom to lately hemorrhaging users for a number of reasons, Netflix is trying to find the best way to combat the ever-crowding streaming landscape.

Sure, the service started by offering DVD rentals by mail, but its name ended up being quite serendipitous. Netflix completely reinvented itself as the premier source of streaming movies and TV shows on the internet, and its business began growing like crazy.

Then Netflix completely reinvented itself again as an award-winning studio that has produced some of the best original series and movies in the world. Over the years, it has seen immense growth in prestige awards consideration from Emmys and Academy Awards alike (even if they still can’t seem to nab that Best Picture Oscar).

As Netflix continues to grow, more and more content is added to its catalog. That’s a great thing for users, of course, but it’s also a bit of a double-edged sword at times. Anyone who has ever fired up Netflix without having a specific show or movie in mind will be all too familiar with the downside of Netflix’s ever-expanding content catalog: it can be very difficult at times to figure out what to watch.

We love Netflix just as much as any other user, but there are some things about the service that can be quite frustrating at times. The auto-play feature is obviously at the top of the list, and every Netflix user out there knows exactly what we’re talking about. You browse to a show or movie, open the info page to learn more, and all of a sudden it starts playing on its own in the background. We’re actually getting angry just thinking about it. But there is a fix to it that will help.

Browsing Netflix content can be almost as frustrating at times. For whatever reason, Netflix thinks it’s a good idea to constantly change the interface every time you log in. Sometimes your queue is at the top, other times your queue isn’t even on the page. One day it’s easy to continue watching a show where you left off, then the next day you have to scroll for an eternity to find your play history. And Netflix is always switching up the categories it shows on the homepage, which is neat for variety but less so if you like to stick to certain genres.

Here are Chrome browser extensions you can add to make your experience more enjoyable.

Better Browser

You can click around a bit to land on static genres to browse that way, but then you circle back to another problem: there are thousands of shows and movies in each genre, so it can be tough to find one to watch. What you might not know, however, is that Netflix has tons of secret categories that are far more specific and make browsing content much easier. The problem, of course, is that they’re secret so no one knows about them.

Finding these hidden categories used to involve searching for special codes and then going to each hidden category page manually. Then, developers thankfully decided to tackle the problem by creating browser extensions that simplify the process. Our favorite so far is Better Browse for Google’s Chrome web browser.

Better Browse is a free plugin that displays Netflix’s secret categories the way they should be displayed. Just click the “Browse all” link at the top of the Netflix homepage and you’ll find them all listed right there. This way, instead of fishing around for 20 minutes on one of the site’s broad genre pages, you can narrow down your search by browsing more focused categories like “Foreign Action & Adventure,” “Martial Arts Movies,” “Anime Horror,” “Dark Comedies,” “Military Dramas,” “Zombie Horror Movies,” and more.

Better Browse is a free download that can be found in the Chrome web store.

Previously known as Netflix Party, this is a Chrome extension that lets you watch Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, HBO, or Prime Video in sync with your friends. You can create movie nights with your friends from wherever you are. Over 20 million people use this.

All you need to do is click on a video on any of those services and choose the red “Tp” button. That opens up a Teleparty and you can just share the party URL with friends to sync up. It’s incredibly easy and fun.

Netflix 1080p

This is all about the viewing experience you prefer. This extension will force 1080p and 5.1 playback for Netflix. It delivers high-quality viewing, as Netflix typically plays back at a maximum of 720p and AAC2.0. It will also use 5.1 audio when available.

This automatically selects the best bitrate available. For older computers, it uses VP9 instead of H.264.

Netflix Extended

Netflix Extended helps Netflix pick up the pace. You can skip intros, recaps, start your next episode, or your next movie in a faster time. This lets you disable or enable the features in a quick and easy fashion. When the current episode ends, this starts the next one right away.

Pressing R on the browse page will start a random show or movie, minus any you have disliked. It stops trailers on the browse page and hides any disliked shows from showing up for you. If the video starts to play out of focus at all, it will automatically stop and restart itself to refocus.

Want the ratings that you trust? Trim delivers IMDb ratings for Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney Plus, HBO Max, Hulu, AppleTV and PeacockTV. Now you can search based off of ratings from IMDb, rather than the star options from Netflix.

This also will help you test whether or not Netflix’s algorithm really has your interests down pat. You can sort items by ratings, release year, popularity, or title. It will fade out low-rated options, so you are only watching the best quality choices.
